Hello and welcome to week 15 of your Sprouting Acres CSA share. Deer Update: We will put some small lettuce heads in this week! Andy had our dog Gaya chase a couple deer away from the area the other day but she stopped at the woods like they were haunted. She turned away and ran three hundred yards back to him looking back as she ran so maybe she realized how big they were when she got close! So the lettuce begins again. We are still getting lots of tomatoes and cucumbers every couple of days so we hope you are enjoying those. We picked up some more beans this week from Emerald Meadows since ours didn’t fare well. We are checking with other farms to see if their sweet potatoes did much this year with all the rain, clouds and then early cool weather but we may not have such a great harvest. Which is a bummer with such an abundance last season. We had several rainy weeks in a row this year right when they needed to be weeded. So, they were not able to get the attention they normally do since the tractor couldn’t get in to cultivate. The winter squash that we planted also didn’t fare well. We have some and it’s ripening up for the last couple boxes but we will not have a bounty like we did last year. We are trying to source a few more for the last boxes if we can. It is really starting to feel like Autumn on the farm. The shorts went away, longs sleeve t shirts came out, and sweatshirts in the morning as well. It feels nice but worrisome that we will have an early cold snap and rough winter. We’ll see! We also want to update you on our farm building plans. We have one of two building permits and are scheduled for construction at the end of the month! If you didn’t read it last week… with all the construction going on between Andy’s parent’s house and the new shed, we are going to postpone the farm potluck party until next spring. That way, we can practice making pizzas for you, eat inside the new building if needed and tour the farm with all the changes that will be made over the next several months. It will be much more of a party and a bit more relaxing for us after the construction is over. We hope you understand. Thanks and have a great weekend! Sprouting Acres mailing address: 116 N. The salsa verde kits are ready to use to make green salsa. It can be used for chicken, fish, with chips, on grilled beef, in a crockpot with pork, and then some. Check out the recipes to the right for some different ways to make it. The purple ones tend to be smaller and a little sweeter and can be eaten raw in a salad as well. We like to grill all the ingredients then blend them up, add a little salt and pepper and enjoy! Grilling adds a bit more flavor to the salsa.
