St Aidan’s Senior Interhouse Athletics Carnival Thursday 20 July, 2017 The annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival will take place at Ambiwerra on Thursday 20 July (Term 3 / Week 2). Please see below some key information about the day.
This year we are asking students to nominate online. We are hoping that this will streamline the process and also make it fair for everyone. All nominations are due in by Friday 16 June. All students who have completed their nomination by this date will go into the draw to win a $25 gift voucher from Canterbury. During the holidays we will confirm all nominations and advise of any necessary trials. Please note that places are limited in the Championship Division for all events. 100m (5 x Age Group / House) 200m (3 x Age Group / House) 400, 800, 1500, Hurdles (not for 12yrs), Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump (2 x Age Group / House)
Students who wish to compete for Age Champion or represent the school in Athletics should nominate to compete in the Championship Division.
If there are more nominations than places available in an Age Group / House, a trial will be held to determine final nominations. All trials will be held at Ambiwerra on Tuesday 11 July (Term 3, Week 1) during Athletics training. If students are required to attend a trial they will be sent an email with the relevant details.
Please note that students may enter a maximum of 5 Championship Division events and 1 Relay. The Age Champion will be determined by the student who accumulates the most points from their best four individual events, irrespective of whether they do 4 or 5.
This year we are introducing some modified field events to increase participation on the day. For example in Javelin if you are not one of the two girls in your Age Group / House competing in the Championship Division you will have an opportunity to gain points for your House by taking part in the Participation Division. For Javelin, students in the Participation Division will throw a vortex instead of a javelin and points will be determined by scoring zones.
There is no limit to how many participation field events students can compete in. All girls are encouraged to complete at least one run, jump and throw!

GENERAL INFORMATION
Seniors are to meet Ms Bishop in front of the Tennis Courts at Ambiwerra for roll call at 8.30am, and then proceed to their House areas. Year 7 – 11 are to meet in CHC for roll call at 8.30am.
800M runners please note that your event will start at 8.40am, so you will need to proceed directly to Ambiwerra, rather than the CHC, on Thursday morning and the marshalling sheets will be used as your roll.
If you have a clash between a track and a field event, please register at your field event and then compete in the track event before returning to the field event. Track events take priority over Field Events.
Girls must bring their own lunch, drinks, hat, sunscreen and tracksuit. Full & correct sports uniform may be worn to and from school on the day (joggers are allowed).
Normal school rules apply regarding iPods, phones, electronic devices etc.: please do not bring these to Ambiwerra, as they are liable to be confiscated.
House colours and cheer squad uniforms must be brought to school and not worn in public. Girls must change back into sports uniform before leaving Ambiwerra in the afternoon.
Students who have arrived at Ambiwerra by private transport, or who are leaving by private transport, must report to their YEAR LEVEL CO-ORDINATOR to be marked off.
Hats must be worn at ALL times. Apply sunscreen and drink water regularly.
House Captains and Seniors are responsible for House athletes attending events on time, in combination with the House Coordinator.
If you are not competing or marshalling for an event, you should be in your House area. Do not enter the oval/competition area unless you are participating in a specific event, and please do not cross the running track during an event. Always check for throwing events when moving about– especially near the Javelin area.
The 100m participation races are NOT ‘novelty’ events. You must run in your lane, in correct sports attire, and to the best of your ability, if you wish to take part and earn a point for your House. LANE ORDER FOR: LANE 2 3 4 5 6 7
