RUNNING PROCEDURES AND RULES 1. 2. 3. 4.
Events run at the Interschool carnival are based on district and regional athletic events. Please note some events are run as pre-carnival events. Note also some events are only open to 13-Open competitors (see overview of events). Carnival events, students must only report to the Event when their event is called. When not competing in events students are to remain in House tents. 5. Starting Procedure for running events i) The starter will blow a whistle. Competitors will move to the start line. It is also a signal for the crowd to be quiet. ii) The second command is “Take your Marks”. Runners should move or be in their starting position. All competitors must be still before the race commences. iii) A one start rule will apply in championship events. 6. Competitors must stay in their lane at the end of running events until the judges instructs them to leave. The judges will make their decision on placings. 7. Records and age champions will be decided on times.

If a student fouls in their first attempt they may receive a second jump. In high jump students receive three attempts at each height. If they fail to clear a height with three attempts they are eliminated. If two students clear the same height a count back will occur based on the highest attempt missed, then the number of attempts missed. Age Champion Gold (1st), Silver (2nd) and Bronze (3rd) Age champion medallions will be presented in each age division for boys and girls at the completion of the carnival. Points will be allocated by places based on the top 8 times / places in all events. 1st 20

House Shield The house that earns the most points will be awarded the champion house athletics shield. House points will be based on age champion points in championship events. Students will also receive 1 point for participation in Non-championship events.

RUNNING PROCEDURES AND RULES 1. 2. 3. 4.
Events run at the Interschool carnival are based on district and regional athletic events. Please note some events are run as pre-carnival events. Note also some events are only open to 13-Open competitors (see overview of events). Carnival events, students must only report to the Event when their event is called. When not competing in events students are to remain in House tents. 5. Starting Procedure for running events i) The starter will blow a whistle. Competitors will move to the start line. It is also a signal for the crowd to be quiet. ii) The second command is “Take your Marks”. Runners should move or be in their starting position. All competitors must be still before the race commences. iii) A one start rule will apply in championship events. 6. Competitors must stay in their lane at the end of running events until the judges instructs them to leave. The judges will make their decision on placings. 7. Records and age champions will be decided on times.

Jumping Events Students must use the correct technique, one-foot take-off in high jump, hop step jump in Triple jump, take off on or behind the board in long jump. All students will have one jump with the top ten having a second jump and top five a third (if time permits). The winner may have a fourth attempt at the record. If a student fouls in their first attempt they may receive a second jump. In high jump students receive three attempts at each height. If they fail to clear a height with three attempts they are eliminated. If two students clear the same height a count back will occur based on the highest attempt missed, then the number of attempts missed. Age Champion Gold (1st), Silver (2nd) and Bronze (3rd) Age champion medallions will be presented in each age division for boys and girls at the completion of the carnival. Points will be allocated by places based on the top 8 times / places in all events. 1st 20

House Shield The house that earns the most points will be awarded the champion house athletics shield. House points will be based on age champion points in championship events. Students will also receive 1 point for participation in Non-championship events.
