A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR Dear Friends,

I hope you are excited for this Sunday's Rally Day. I know that I am! Remember that we are all meeting together at 10:00 am, and we are encouraging all students to bring their backpacks for a blessing! Have you had a chance, yet, to invite a friend or neighbor who doesn't have a church home? If not, it's not too late! If you are on Facebook, feel free to share our posts about the events coming up on Sunday.

My sermon will address one of the more difficult-to-explain parts of Jesus' ministry. He is confronted by a Canaanite woman, whose daughter is in dire need. Jesus rejects her request for healing, and only after an argument does he finally give in and provide the healing she so desires. It's a challenging exchange, but I think we have much to learn from it. I hope to see you there!

May God bless you this weekend, Fr. Quinn+

PARISH NEWS

Rally Day This Sunday Don't forget! This Sunday is Rally Day. Please join us as we celebrate the Eucharist together as one church at 10:00 am. (And remember, those who were

scheduled to participate in the 11:00 am service are asked to minister at the 10:00 am service instead.) Lunch immediately follows: Baked potato bar, salad, Becky's rolls, and ice cream with toppings. Donations are accepted and appreciated. After lunch there will be a Ministries Fair set up for all to stroll through. Children can come to the art room during this time so parents are able to enjoy the fair. See you there!

Book Share Returns We're bringing back the Book Share! If you are looking for something to read, check out the bookshelves in the Book Study classroom (outside the Bracewell Room, next to the Bride’s Room). Simply take a book or leave a book. No need to check it out. Bring it back or not. Just enjoy! We still have room for a few more books, so if you have appropriate books you would like to share with others, just add them to the shelves.

News from CREATE During the month of August, CREATE requests donations of cotton underwear and white socks for Adult men and women. Please leave your donations on the bench inside the Bracewell Room.

Education for Ministry (EfM) EfM is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the Bible, church history, and Christian theology all in the context of a prayerful, intentional community. If that sounds interesting to you please be in touch with Fr. Quinn for information about the program and possibilities for a group at St. Peter's.

Request for Transportation A young man has requested a ride to St. Peter’s on Sunday mornings. He lives on East 16th Street downtown. Please call the Parish Administrator at 423-877-2428.

A Message from the Flower Guild Just a reminder that many Sundays are still available this year if you would like to dedicate flowers for the altar in memory of a deceased loved one, in celebration of a special event, or in thanksgiving for a friend or family member. Check the poster in the Bracewell Room for openings. You may pick up a flower donation form in the church office or contact the Parish Administrator by phone or email. Please specify the date you prefer and whether you would like specific flowers or colors represented. The minimum donation is $35. Make checks payable to St. Peter’s Church and drop in the offering plate, bring by the church office, or mail.

Diocesan Announcement: Bishop’s Gift Beloved in Christ,

We have been blessed and privileged to have the Rt. Rev. George D. Young, III as our bishop. Under his tenure, the diocese has flourished. Alas, now we must say goodbye. It is customary, when a diocesan bishop retires, to collect a Voluntary Gift as a love offering to the departing bishop.

We, the Standing Committee, are writing to you to ask you for a monetary gift for this Voluntary Gift for the bishop. And we are asking you, laity and clergy, to be as generous with this gift as Bishop Young has been with us personally and

professionally. It would be our privilege, as a diocese, to give Bishop Young a super Voluntary Gift upon the occasion of his retirement. Help us bless the lives of the bishop and Kammy! It is planned that we give the gift to the bishop and Kammy on the occasion of the celebration of the bishop’s ministry at Grace Point on Saturday, 28 October, 2017.

If you wish to be part of this wonderful project, please send your checks, endorsed to the Diocese of East Tennessee, to:

The Diocese of East Tennessee 814 Episcopal School Way Knoxville, TN 37932

Please also put “for the Bishop’s Voluntary Gift” in the note line. Please note also that, as a personal gift, this donation is not tax deductible. If you have questions, please feel free to call me at 423-276-5045. In Christ, The Rev. Edward J. Mills III President, The Standing Committee
