A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR
Dear Friends,
I cannot tell you how good it is finally to be with you all at St. Peter's. This week has been wonderful, exciting, and full. I have discovered quickly how very warm and welcoming you are, how deeply you care about this place, and how excited you are for our future here. God has big things planned for this wonderful parish, and I have been thankful to hear from some of you what that might mean.
I am hopeful to meet many of you this Sunday in worship. (A warning, please don't administer any names tests just yet!) For those who are currently unable to be in worship, and to those who are away for much needed summer vacations I'd still love to connect soon. I am active on social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram (@FrQuinnP), and I'd be happy to accept any friend requests you send my way.
If an in-person visit is more your speed, please give me a call at the church office or send me an email at
[email protected], and I'll be happy to find a time for us to get together soon.
Again, I'm thrilled to be here and excited for all that God has in store for us.
Grace and Peace, Fr. Quinn+
PARISH NEWS
Don’t Miss This Sunday You are invited to attend the 7:30 am or 11:00 am service at St. Peter’s this Sunday, July 16. Help us to welcome our new Rector, the Rev. F. Quinn Parman and his family! There will be cake and ice cream in the Bracewell Room after the 11:00 am service. Please fill out a nametag in the Narthex so we can all get acquainted (and reacquainted) this summer. Exciting things are happening at St. Peter’s and we hope you will join us!
Children’s Homily & Children’s Chapel Children are welcome to participate in all aspects of worship at St. Peter's, and we encourage parents of young children to sit near the front. For the next 2 weeks, all children will be invited to the front for a Children's Homily following the reading of the Gospel. Linda Cooper, Director of Christian Education, will offer
Children's Chapel during the sermon, returning in time for communion. We also offer nursery care for children age 5 and under. The 9:00 am service resumes August 6.
Education for Ministry (EfM) EfM is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the Bible, church history, and Christian theology all in the context of a prayerful, intentional community. If that sounds interesting to you please be in touch with Fr. Quinn for information about the program and possibilities for a group at St. Peter's.
Request for Transportation A young man has requested a ride to St. Peter’s on Sunday mornings. He lives on East 16th Street downtown. For more information, call the Parish Administrator at 423-877-2428.
CREATE Collection for July During the month of July, CREATE requests the following donations of school supplies: Pencil pouches, 3-ring white binders, wide-rule spiral notebooks, folders, wide-rule notebook paper, copy paper, facial tissue, hand sanitizer, glue sticks, pencils, cap erasers, colored pencils, dry erase markers, 24-count boxes of crayons, sanitizing wipes, and backpacks. You may leave your donations on the bench inside the Bracewell Room.
Book Drive St. Peter’s Church is collecting new and gently used children’s books to replace
inventory lost due to the recent flooding of the St. Peter’s School classrooms. For more information, contact the School at 870-1794. The Open Offering on July 30 will be dedicated to this need.
Safeguarding God’s Children Matt Harbison will lead a training session for “Safeguarding God’s Children” on Thursday, August 10, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Bracewell Room. To register, contact the school or church office.
Sunday Noon Fellowship This Summer In thanksgiving for all our faithful Fellowship volunteers who provide refreshments so generously during the year, the Vestry will host the Sunday noon Fellowship all summer. Coffee, lemonade, and cookies will be provided in the Bracewell Room after the 11:00 am service. A Message from the Flower Guild Just a reminder that many Sundays are still available this year if you would like to dedicate flowers for the altar in memory of a deceased loved one, in celebration of a special event, or in thanksgiving for a friend or family member. Check the poster in the Bracewell Room for openings. You may pick up a flower donation form in the church office or contact the Parish Administrator by phone or email. Please specify the date you prefer and whether you would like specific flowers or colors represented. The minimum donation is $35. Make checks payable to St. Peter’s Church and drop in the offering plate, bring by the church office, or mail.
Episcopal Churchmen Conference The 71st Annual Laymen's Conference sponsored by the Episcopal Churchmen of Tennessee will be held August 18-20, 2017, at the Dubose Conference Center in Monteagle, TN. Flyers for the conference are located in the foyer of the church. Registration can be made on line at Episcopal Churchmen of Tennessee (http://tnchurchmen.org). This is a great time for fellowship with fellow laymen from the Diocese of East Tennessee, Tennessee, and West Tennessee—lots of good food, activities, speakers, prayer, and just being on the mountain. Question? Contact Chip Stansbury or John Trieber.
