Lawton High School – Wolverines Restorative Alternative Program
Student Eligibility: To be eligible for the Lawton High School – Wolverine Restorative Alternative Program (W.R.A.P), students must be classified as, “at-promise,” according to Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) guidelines and be recommended by their home campus counselor and administrator. The student must have a deficiency of credits to graduate, and/or be classified by LPS as a “at promise”, which include but are not limited to teen parents, dropouts, etc. Students who meet this criterion and who wish to be enrolled in the Lawton High School – W.R.A.P must enroll at their home campus High School, complete a Lawton High School – W.R.A.P application, and submit it ( and any IEP or 504 plans) to their home campus Counselor. W.R.A.P application packets will be available at all of the participating High Schools Counselors’ offices. When the home campus Counselor receives the W.R.A.P applications, they send it (with any IEP or 504 plans, transcripts, discipline records) to the committee at Lawton High School campus. This committee determines/ review which students are appropriate applicants WRAP. Lawton High School Counselors, Alternative School Coordinator and the students’ parents/guardians are then contacted to let them know whether or not the student has been accepted into W.R.A.P Student Admission Conferences Conferences will be set up for students who wish to attend the Lawton High School– Wolverines Restorative Alternative Program. For students who are not of legal adult age, a parent/ guardian will need to accompany them. The conference is an opportunity for the student to meet the program committee members, discuss their educational goals, and learn about the program expectations,
Attendance In order to be successful it is critical that students attend school regularly. Students who have poor attendance rates will fall behind on their coursework. The Lawton High School – Wolverines Alternative Program students attend school for four hours from 7:30 am – 11:45am. daily. If a student is not making adequate academic progress, he/she will need to make other arrangements with the instructor until progress is maintained. A meeting will be set up to determine when and how long that student would stay. Given that students are only required to attend school for four hours daily, we request that students and parents make all doctors’ appointments etc., for times that the student is not in school.
Lawton High School – Wolverines Restorative Alternative Program In addition to the initial orientation, each student’s attendance in the computer lab is required to complete a minimal number of tests and quizzes under the supervision of the instructor. When you are in the building for Credit Recovery, you must report to and remain in the classroom Students who are absent must call the school office (580- 355-7071) and explain the reason for their absence. The school office will call the parent/guardian of students who are absent each morning and afternoon. Students should also bring a written note documenting the reason for their absence and signed by their parent/guardian upon their return. The only absences that are excused are those that the office receives a written official excuse (for example, doctor’s note, dentist’s note, counselor’s note, court papers) and for observance of religious holy days. Final decisions regarding attendance will be made by the Lawton High School Attendance Committee. Students will not be allowed to leave campus for any reason without the written permission of their parent/guardian. A student who leaves without permission will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children attend school on a regular and punctual basis. The purpose is to help students learn daily and be educationally prepared for the next school year. The District believes that teaching children the importance of regular and punctual attendance also helps them mature into responsible adults who will one day be prepared for the world of work. Children are expected to be in school a minimum of ninety percent (90%) of the time. The following steps assist in accomplishing this goal. LPS Attendance Policy A. Before 8:00 a.m. on the day of any absence, it is the responsibility of the student’s parent/guardian/legal custodian (hereafter referred to as the parent) to notify the school secretary or building administrator regarding the reason for the absence. In the event the school is not contacted, a school official will attempt to contact the parent. B. If a student has three unexcused absences, a school official will contact the child’s home, and the child’s parent will be required to meet with the school official to discuss the unexcused absences, as well as the student’s academic standing and potential for success in school. C. Following the fourth unexcused absence, the parent will be required to meet with an administrator from the district office of student services, and sign a statement of understanding regarding Oklahoma’s school attendance laws.
