August Memory Verses: John 3:14-16 Just as Moses lifted up the in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. =================================== Catechism Quest for Children’s Church 48. Q. What day of the week do Christians set aside as holy to God? A. The first day of the week, called the Lord’s Day. (The first day of the week has been recognized by the church as the Lord’s Day since apostolic times. John 20:1-19 Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:2) 49. Q. Why is it called the Lord’s Day? A. Because it is the day that Christ rose from the dead. (Matt. 28:1-6; Luke 24:1-6; John 20:1-19) 50. Q. How should the Lord’s Day be kept? A. As a day set apart to God in worshipping with God’s people and remembering Jesus our Lord and Savior. (Is. 58:13-14; Heb. 10:23-25). 51. Q. What is the fifth commandment? A. The fifth commandment is, Honor your father and mother (Ex 20:12; Deut 5:16). 52. Q. What does the fifth commandment teach us? A. To love and obey our parents (Mt 15:3-6; Eph 6:1-3; Col 3:20).

Feeding on the Truth Monday Reread Psalm 45. What questions do you still have of the text? What observations were most edifying or challenging? What will you do after reflecting on this text?

Tuesday There can be little doubt that Psalm 45 was in the mind of John as he wrote Revelation 19. Read, in particular, Revelation 19:6-16. What images from Psalm 45 are picked-up by John?

Wednesday Matthew 22:1-14, a parable of Christ, also picks up a wedding theme. What is the point of the parable? • Who is the king? • Who is his son? • Who are those who refused to come to the feast? • Who are those gathered from the roads? • Who is the man who is improperly attired? • What is the encouragement found for us in the parable? What is the warning?

Thursday Matthew 25:1-13, another parable of Christ, also picks up the wedding theme? How might the teaching and warning of this parable relate to the teaching gleaned from Psalm 45? (Hint: It might not be readily apparent.)

Friday In Psalm 45:10-11, we see the calling before the bride to cut all former allegiances and be single minded for her husband the king. Clearly, this is also the calling of the Church. Read and reflect on the following passages: • Matthew 4:18-22 • Matthew 6:19-24 • Matthew 10:37-39 • Mark 10:17-22 • Luke 9:57-62 • 2 Corinthians 11:1-3 • James 4:4

Saturday Lord willing, Pastor Josh will bring the Word to us from another Messianic Psalm, Psalm 72. Read Psalm 72 as you prepare for worship on the Lord’s Day. To Ponder: How does the theme of this psalm relate to Psalm 45?

Connecting Truth to Life Aug. 21-26, 2017 Sermon Title: “The Wedding of the King” Sermon Text: Psalm 45 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions; your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad; daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor; at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir. Psalm 45:6-9
