THE SERIES: Since the 1955-56 season (first consistent known meeting), NJCU is 67-40 against the Lions. GREEN and GOLD DAY: Today’s game is the annual ‘Green and Gold Day’ game. NJCU is 3-5 all-time during the event. LAST MEETING: January 8, 2011 in Ewing, NJ. NJCU won, 71-69. Josh Hosang scored 18 and Keith Williams added 15. Dashawn Eagles blocked a potential game-winning three-pointer with less than two seconds to go. Steve Siracusa provided 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, with seven rebounds and five steals. SNAPPED AT 18: NJCU’s loss to #18 William Paterson on Wednesday snapped a twoyear, 18-game home court winning streak and was its first home court setback since December 4, 2010. NJCU is 7-1 at home this season. LAST TIME OUT: On Wednesday, NJCU fell to #18 William Paterson, 72-58. It was NJCU’s largest margin of defeat this year and its first back-to-back losses. NJCU committed 21 turnovers and has averaged 22 giveaways in its last two losses. The giveaways were the difference. WPU only had nine turnovers and owned a 23-5 difference in points off turnovers. WPU, which also had a 28-6 edge in bench scoring, outrebounded NJCU 34-23, including 14-4 on the offensive glass. That helped the Pioneers claim a 12-2 margin in second chance scoring. Walik Albright had 16 and Matt Washington added 15 points for NJCU. A LOT AT STAKE: With just seven conference games remaining, NJCU has fallen out of NJAC Tournament position. NJCU (3-3) is tied for fourth with Rutgers-Newark. WPU is 6-1. Both Montclair State and Ramapo are 4-2 in the division—one game up on NJCU. The Knights have defeated MSU and lost late to Ramapo in overtime. NJCU faces each school one more time. It’s also an important game for TCNJ. At 2-5, the Lions are a half game back of Kean (2-4) and Rowan (2-4).
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION LAST TIME OUT: TCNJ won their second straight game Friday night as they beat visiting Hunter College, 79-60. The Lions shot 47 percent from the field and hit 19-of-23 free throws. Brandon Johnson came off the bench to record a career-high of 15 points and four steals, while dishing out two assists. Albert Matlock, Kyle Rawson and Donovan Smalls each chipped in 11 points, apiece for the Lions. Emmanuel Matlock had a solid overall game, adding nine points, four assists and a season-high six steals. BIG BITES: TCNJ leads the conference in steals, averaging 10.1 per game. The Lions Emmanuel Matlock leads the Lions in steals, averaging 1.9 each game. TCNJ also leads the NJAC in turnover margin with a +5.56 per game difference. Ramapo is a distant second at +2.71. TOP ROOK: TCNJ’s Kyle Cancillieri is a three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week pick this season. ***THE NCAA, ECAC, NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE AND NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY PROMOTE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BY STUDENT-ATHLETES, COACHES, STAFF AND SPECTATORS.
