FEMALE LION OF THE WEEK ALEX SIETSMA Softball Sophomore Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock Sietsma recorded a pair of shutout wins for the Lions starting with an 8-0 win over RutgersCamden in five innings with five strikeouts. The sophomore then tossed a four-hit shutout against 21st-ranked Ramapo College as TCNJ won 4-0. In three appearances on the week, she boasted a 0.45 ERA and had 14 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

Murray was part of the winning 4x400 relay team that had an ECAC qualifying mark of 3:17.92, and he was also the top Division III finisher in the 400 meters with another ECAC cut of 49.14 seconds, placing second overall as the Lions competed at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College.

TCNJ climbs in NJAC standings: The Lions had a big week going 5-1 with all of those games coming against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents. TCNJ started with a 9-2 road win at Rowan University as sophomore pitcher Connor Henderson (Monmouth Junction, NJ/S. Brunswick) picked up his team-leading fifth win of the season, throwing a complete game. The Lions then held off a late surge by Richard Stockton for a 6-5 victory before taking on William Paterson in a doubleheader. The Lions won both games from the Pioneers taking the opener 11-5 and the second game, 13-5. They ended with another twin bill at Montclair State University as TCNJ won 8-7 in 10 innings in the first game with senior Eric Gertie (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson) earning the win. The Red Hawks then salvaged a split taking the second game, 16-5. That stretch of wins put the Lions in second place in the NJAC standings heading into the final week of the regular season. Esperon heating up: Junior Chris Esperon (Union, NJ/Union Catholic) hit safely in all six games last week extending his hitting streak to nine games. He is batting .488 over that stretch with five doubles, two home runs, 11 runs, and 10 runs batted in. Tussey adds pop: Senior Adam Tussey (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) has been a key fielder at second helping the Lions turn 35 double plays, but added a special moment at the plate in the second game against WPU hitting his first home run as a Lion. Toth remains hot at the plate: Senior Jeff Toth (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville) leads the NJAC in batting at a clip of .492 and in runs scored with 47. The shortstop leads the Lions with 14 doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 37 RBI.

TCNJ Lions Softball Bites of the Week Overall Record: 20-14 NJAC: 9-5 TCNJ climbs up in NJAC standings: The Lions went 4-2 on the week and that mark proprelled them into a third-place tie with Ramapo College in a battle for a home game in the opening round of the upcoming NJAC Tournament. The top three teams in the final standings host an open-round contest before the tournament shifts to the top seed. The Lions split a doubleheader at William Paterson to start the week falling 8-1 in the opening game and bounced back to beat the Pioneers 8-0 behind a three-hitter from freshman Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/BridgewaterRaritan). Pitching again helped the Lions as they took two games from Rutgers-Camden as Fitzsimmons went all eight innings in a 4-3 win, while sophomore Alex Sietsma (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) limited the Scarlet Raptors to five hits in an 8-0 win. TCNJ closed out the week at 21st-ranked Ramapo College and fell 4-3 in nine innings before Sietsma again picked up the win with her second straight shutout as TCNJ collected a 4-0 triumph. That last win was the 20th of the season for the Lions marking the 13th time in the 14-year tenure of head coach Sally Miller they have accomplished that feat. Hagel hits first homer: Junior Dani Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) picked up her first home run of the season against Rutgers-Camden as she drilled a three-run shot to left field. She leads the team with 19 runs batted in. Lee making an impact: Freshman Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) hit .478 from the lead-off spot and scored eight runs last week. For the season, she is hitting .339 and has scored 20 runs putting her second on the team in both categories.

TCNJ Lions Women’s Lacrosse Bites of the Week Overall Record: 10-2 NJAC: 2-0 TCNJ falls in lone game of the week: The Lions were at Franklin & Marshall in their lone game of the week and fell to the Diplomats by the score of 17-8. The game was a rematch from the 2008 NCAA Division III national semifinals, with F & M also coming out on top 14-12. Sophomore Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/ North Hunterdon) accounted for a majority of TCNJ’s offense as she recorded five goals with junior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) scoring twice and Katie Reuther (Toms River, Nj/Toms River North) once.

Busy week awaits Lions: After only one game last week, TCNJ will take the field three times this week starting with a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup against Montclair State University on Tuesday. The Lions are home again on Thursday playing their makeup game with College of Mount Saint Vincent and round out the week entertaining Frostburg State University in a matinee on Saturday afternoon. Lions surpass career bests: With her five goals against F & M, Jaeger set a career high with 47. She tallied 46 in her first season. Seldeen has collected a career-best 30 goals, while Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) has picked up 22 goals for her career best. Reuther leads the team in assists with 19 after picking up a combined 12 in her first three seasons. Senior Kelly Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/ Lenape) leads the team in grounds balls with a career-high 31 and she has tied her career mark for caused turnovers with 16.

TCNJ runners turning in impressive times: TCNJ is gearing up for the latter stages of the season by producing NCAA and ECAC qualifying marks as they excelled at two different meets. Women shine in 800 meters: A small group of Lions ran in the 800 meters at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University and had an extremely successful event. Senior Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) finished second overall and was the top NCAA Division III runner in the race posting an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 2:08.69. Junior Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler) was third with another automatic NCAA time of 2:09.30, while sophomore Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/ Colts Neck) posted a NCAA provisional mark of 2:13.45. At the Greyhound Invitational, junior Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) was third in the 100-meter high hurdles with a NCAA provisional cut of 14.92 seconds. The other provisional mark came in the 4x400 relay as the team of Alexandra Tomaselli (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley), Spadaccini, Wimberly, and Herrick placed second with a time of 3:55.79. In the 400 hurdles, junior Meghan Miller (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) was fifth in an ECAC worthy time of 66.30 seconds, while Tomaselli was sixth in 67 seconds flat. The Lions also had runners place fifth and sixth in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson) claimed fifth in 4:48.98 and freshman Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) was next with a clocking of 4:50.63. TCNJ also finished sixth in the 4x100 as the team of Senyah, sophomore Tiffany Etheredge (Newark, NJ/Central), senior Kristen Tricocci (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Wimberly col-

lected an ECAC cut of 48.74 seconds. Relay teams excel for men: TCNJ also performed well in the 4x400 as the team of junior DeShard Stevens (Jersey City, NJ/James T. Ferris), senior Steve Murray (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown), senior Pasquale DiGioacchino (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards), and senior Rob McGowan (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) teamed up for a winning time of 3:17.92, which was an ECAC qualifying time. The Lions placed second in the 4x100 with an ECAC qualifying mark of 42.55 seconds with the quartet of sophomore Jule Brooks (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City), freshman Chris Medina (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), freshman Justin Worthing (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), and freshman Robert Jiggetts (Robbinsville, NJ/ Robbinsville) running the race. In the 400, Murray finished third with a time of 49.14 seconds and McGowan was fifth in 49.23 as both runners met ECAC standards. The Lions added a third-place effort in the 800 as DiGioacchino had an ECAC time of 1:54.24 and sophomore Dennie Waite (Little River, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) was fifth in 1:55.71. Senior Al Wonesh (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) and sophomore Kyle Gilroy (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Twp.) both had ECAC cuts in the 400 hurdles with Wonesh placing fifth (54.69) and Gilroy sixth (55.86).

TCNJ Lions Tennis Bites of the Week Women’s Record: 14-3 NJAC Record: 5-0 Men’s Record: 10-2 Men net big win at Haverford: TCNJ scored a big win at Haverford College in its lone match of the week as the Lions collected a 5-3 victory over the Fords. Haverford entered the match ranked eighth regionally, while the Lions are 10th. The key to the win for TCNJ was sweeping all three doubles matches led by the top pairing of junior Jeremy Eckardt (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) and freshman Edgar Shanoyan (Montvale, NJ/Pascack). The duo scored an exciting 9-7 win, while the tandem of Steve Fernandez (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Jonathan Yu (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) won 8-3 in the second slot and freshmen Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington) and Bill Carrig (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) completed the sweep with a 9-8 (7-5) triumph at third doubles.

Winning by committee: The Lion women have had plenty of balance in doubles play this season as the team has used 18 combinations. Kutner and Christie Pollin (Mendham, NJ/Gill St. Bernard) are the only pair to reach double figures in wins with 12. Haar and Felice Trinh (Linden, NJ/ Linden) are second with nine.

Women secure two wins: The Lions scored two wins on the week starting with an 8-1 victory at Haverford College and then returned home to beat New York University, 7-2. TCNJ has now won three straight dual meets and are an impressive 10-1 on their home court. Shtemberg goes 4-0: Junior Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, NJ/ Ramapo) was a perfect 4-0 on the week winning both of her singles matches and both doubles ones as well.
