Concern: Moisture may collect and freeze in locations other than the evaporator coils within some HSCD Side by side refrigerators, particularly those not opened for long periods of time and running at low speed. This may result in a build-up of frost in the ice bucket area and also in the areas immediately adjacent to the door seal (near the top of the freezer compartment).
Cause: Warm moist air may migrate through open seal areas of the door gasket or any other of these other locations: ice door, water tube entrances, evaporator pan drain, etc. As this warm air cools, the moisture from the air condensates then freezes and over time a heavy frost can develop. In addition, the HSCD refrigerator is equipped with a variable speed compressor and evaporator fan for improved energy efficiency. If the refrigerator sits for an extended period of time without door openings, the compressor and evaporator fan will run for longer periods at the lowest speed. This reduces the amount of air flow within the interior of the freezer compartment thus allowing the internal moisture to condensate and freeze more readily on internal freezer surfaces.

The evaporator fan can be ‘fixed’ to run at high speed continuously while the product is cooling. Placing a shunt (jumper) across pins 1 and 2 on connector P2 on the main control board will prevent the evaporator fan from running at the reduced speed. This increase in air flow will allow the evaporator to collect more moisture and reduce the frost collecting in other areas of the product.
