Pre-Kindergarten Literacy Assessments Literacy First Assessments: Phonological Awareness Skills Test Early Childhood Phonics Assessment Reading Sufficiency Folders:  Each student PK-3 is required to have a RED RSA folder (red construction paper folder). The Red Folder to move to Kindergarten with the student.  Each RSA folder will include: o LPS Student Profile Card with updated data (Notate month and year etc. 08/16). o Assessment sheets for Phonological Awareness Skills Test (PAST) and Early Childhood (EC) Phonics Assessment.  For PAST and EC phonics assessment, document attempts for mastery.  If students transfer within the district insure the appropriate information is in the folder for the next teacher to use for their instruction.  If students move out of district send a copy of the LPS Student Profile Card to the receiving school but keep the original Red Folder at the sending site. Test Documentation: Phonological Awareness Assessment:  Check box if given a correct response, notate date of attempt or mastery.  See instructions on pp. 13-17 of Phonological Awareness tab. Early Childhood Phonics Assessment:  Slash (/) if student has given a correct response.  See instructions pp. 15-17 of Word Study for the Emergent Reader and Writer tab.  Notate date of attempt if student has not given the correct number of response for mastery.

Reading Sufficiency - RSA Assessments Time Line Back to School Assessments o Back-to-School Assessment: September 1 – September 29 o Phonological Awareness Skills Test (PAST) o Early Childhood Phonics Assessment o Use the data collected to guide instructional decisions for both whole- and small-group. On-going Assessments  PAST and EC phonics assessments are on-going (update hard cards). Assess, teach, review, review, practice, practice, assess Phonological Awareness Skills Test (PAST) and Phonics Assessment o 3 times a year (update hard cards) o Fall – September 1 - 29 o Winter – January 4 - 31 o Spring – April 3 – May 5 Using the data to drive our instruction  September -Use back-to-school assessments to identify student’s instructional needs and to make instructional decisions for interventions, small group instruction, and whole group instruction.  Teach skills, review, review, practice, practice; assess students who are ready for mastery. Then reorganize small groups as needed.  January – Use winter assessments to continue to identify student’s instructional needs  April – Use spring assessment to check end of year “On Grade Level Criteria” for each student (see p. 28 of Word Study for the Emergent Reader and Writer tab and p. 37 of Phonological Awareness tab)
