Petty Officer 2nd Class THOMAS P. DOUGHERTY, U.S. Navy

T

om Dougherty was born in Troy, New York. He attended St. Patrick’s School and Catholic Central High School, in Troy, New York. He served with the United States Navy for 4 years active, and 4 years in the reserve stationed in Newfoundland, Canada; Norfolk, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida. Tom attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class,

and received the Good Conduct and Tom is a Committee Chair for the National Defense awards. Memorial Day Parade, and he assists with decorating local graves Tom worked for the New York of deceased veterans with flags on State Department of Audit and Memorial Day weekend. Control, the U.S. Postal Service, United Paperworkers Union #17, Tom is also a member of the Troy and Behr Manning. Tom retired from Lodge of Elks #141, North Troy Norton Company. Stag Rod and Gun Club, North Troy Tom is a member of the Veterans Sportsmen’s Club, and Treasurer of Lansingburgh where he serves as of the Lansingburgh Veterans Chairman of the Board of Directors. Tom received the Rensselaer County Veterans Liberty Award Medal from the New York State Senate, and the 2013 Veteran of the Year award from The Friends of 112th Street for dedication to duty and loyalty to the United States Armed Forces. Tom and his wife, Geraldine, reside in Troy. They have 3 children Diane Wilson and Thomas and John Dougherty.

The Veterans of Lansingburgh would like to take this opportunity to thank those involved in making the 18th Annual Memorial Day Parade a huge success. We extend a sincere thank you to The Parade Committee for their continued dedication and hard work. They spend countless hours preparing and giving back to the local community. We would also like to thank the groups that marched in the parade. We had a combination of veteran organizations, youth groups and more than 13 bands participate this year. Thank you to Gary Gallerie for announcing the parade. And we would like to extend a huge thank you to the entire Gallerie family for bringing the “Freedom Express” memorial to the parade and exposing the community to their patriotism. Congratulations to the Grand Marshal Tim Forbes, Honorary Grand Marshal Tom Dougherty and the 2014 Scholarship Winner Michelle Lauletta from Troy High School. Parade Trophy winners were as follows: Best Float was awarded to to the “Freedom Express Memorial”; Best Veterans Group was awarded to the New York Army National Guard Recruiting Station; and Best Youth Group went to the Boy Scout Troop 611. Congratulations to the Veteran of the Year Ed Jackson, Associate Member of the Year Ed Goodwill, and Auxiliary Member of the Year Lori Winne. Lastly, we would like to thank those groups and individuals who made donations to the parade. Your help assisted us in giving back to the local community.
