SPRING 2016
The Fabric Patch 220 Tenth Ave SW Ephrata, WA 98823 (509) 754-8280 www.fabricpatch.net Worth the drive from anywhere!! I apologize for the tardiness of this newsletter. We host so few classes in January and February due to serious weather conditions, I thought I could take a few extra days to get it right.
Leap Year Sale!!! We seldom have sales due to our low price margin, but Leap Year happens only once every four years… we can do that! So every 4th item will be 29% off. Every 4th yard, every 4th remnant, every forth pattern, fat quarter, book, etc. I think this will be a lot of fun!! And what a great opportunity to get fabric on sale!! That certainly doesn’t happen very often! One day only! February 29th. 9:30 - 5:30
I was waiting on a few confirmations from guest teachers. We have some VERY exciting things planned for 2016!! We’re trying to get most of the year planned and scheduled as we are going to host more events at the Retreat House and utilize the 2500 square foot attached Event Center as soon as it is completed. Our plan is to finish the large open floor plan with scenic full wall views of the lake by the end of July. The center will have a large on-site parking lot, 54 canned lights with daylight LED bulbs, an 8 foot projection screen for full view instruction, a commercial kitchen, three bathrooms, and all will be handicapped accessible. We are excited to add this space as we have wanted to host guest speakers like Tula Pink and Sue Spargo for years, but our classroom in the shop is at capacity with only 12, and we don’t have room for design walls. The Event Center is a perfect opportunity to fit up to 40 participants, each with their own 4’ table and design wall. And best of all… out-of-towners (or locals that just want a vacation) can stay at the Retreat House in comfort and con-
QUILT IN A DAY CLASSES!!
venience as it is right next door. I will announce the dates for Tula, Sue, Kim and Mark when we get a little closer (can you believe they are booked 2– 3 years in advance… and I thought I was busy… ) but I thought I could at least announce some of the other exciting events we have scheduled for 2016. On page 4 I’ve listed as many events as I could fit on the page. Each month we will of course have many more classes, but this will give you a chance to see the retreat dates and special events in case you’ve been missing out. I know the retreats fill up quickly, so posting the dates now will help to get more of you in. If you prefer to host your own event with your own guild there are still dates available for 2016. At the time of this writing, we have 16 weeks open and available for your group of up to 14 quilters/scrapbookers/ knitters/crocheters. So now that you are up to date… you better get back to your sewing. Because spring really is right around the corner… soon you’ll have to split your time between sewing and gardening. Can’t wait!! Happy Quilting!! See you soon!! Cindi
PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS!!
We always have requests for beginning quilting classes. We do have a theory class scheduled the end of May, but we thought it would be nice to have some quick easy classes that are simple and informative, with quick results! We have 9 quick “Quilt-in-a-Day” classes planned this year. This month we are featuring one of our favorites, the Crumb Cake. Read about this class on page 3. Quilt in a Day classes are limited to 10 participants. You will need a sewing machine or let us know if you’d like to use our classroom loaner (used free during class, and rentable for $5/day if you need to take it home to finish). Our age limit is 6 - 12 with an adult in the class (child is free with paying adult). Age 12 and older can take a class independently.

Quilting Tip:
of the month, every month. February 3rd is our 4th month. We make 6 - 10 blocks each month, slowly working on putting all of the blocks together for this fabulous, historical quilt. Anyone can join in, at any time. You can catch up, or just join in where we are. Each class features the block lesson, a bonus quilt pattern, a technique review and door prizes.
To machine appliqué circular or oval pieces, first make marks that imitate the hours of a clock face on the shape. Pivot the fabric at each hour mark when you stitch.
When the Quilt Sampler magazine came out with the article about our shop, the pincushions got the most attention. We were averaging 4 calls/emails a day for two months with people from as far away as Australia ordering pincushion kits and patterns. We have made 42 different pincushions now, and we’re still going strong. Every month is a new one, always seasonal, always cute. All you bring to class is your sewing kit (sharp scissors, a seam ripper and a marking pen/pencil. We supply everything else. The pattern, fabric and instruction is just $14.99. Open to all!
Crumb Cake has always been one of our favorite quilts. It is PERFECT for a beginner, or for someone who has a stash that is out of control. You can use things up and practice cutting and piecing, but the blocks are very random so there’s no way you can make a mistake. Guaranteed! You can feature a pretty all over print or a panel and you can use any size remnant. Even the little ones. Come in to see some of our shop samples… this is a great pattern!
February is National Machine Embroidery Month!! We are celebrating for a whole week with a terrific class perfectly suited for the sewist/quilter that is undecided about machine embroidery. Come in, use our brand new machine, make the gorgeous modern clutch pictured on the left. We will provide the fabric, thread, stabilizer, zipper, instruction and pattern, all for just $20, and you will leave with it done! We are offering the class four different times, each class is limited in size, so decide quickly!
A Sneak Peak at a few Fabric Patch 2016 Events!!! (additional info on each event at the shop). All of our Fabric Patch hosted Retreats have filled up even before the newsletters get published (I’m good at planning and talking… not so good at publishing deadlines…) SO we thought we would give you a quick look.
