The Rescue Week 29, Devotion 1 “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 Everyone is always looking for the easy way out. How do I get a good grade on this test without studying? How can I turn in this assignment with the least effort possible? Is homework really necessary? The reality is that the two things that Paul calls us to do in this passage are so much more than magic words or a shortcut to faith. It’s 100% true that belief in Christ saves us. But to really confess that Jesus is Lord means that we’ve decided that we’re not in control of our lives anymore, and we’ve handed the keys over to Jesus. If we really believe that Jesus came back to life - that changes everything! Sometimes we can think Christianity is just saying or thinking the right things. And then we get to go on living however we want. But if we really look at what Paul is calling us to do, we realize that it’s more than just words and thoughts. If we really believe Jesus is who He says He is, we will live differently. Our belief is a transforming belief. We no longer live for ourselves, but we live for Him! Something to think about . . .  Have you done this? Do you believe in Christ and have you confessed it with your mouth? If you have, spend some time thanking God for His saving you. If you haven’t, take some time to think about why. Consider talking to your church leader or parents about your questions.  Think about the last phrase of this passage: “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” What do you think that means? If we believe in Him, Jesus will not abandon us when we need Him, but He provides us with life everlasting!

Week 29, Devotion 2 The verse we looked at this week talked about the importance of saying and really believing that “Jesus is Lord.” Check out this verse from another letter that Paul wrote in the New Testament: “Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says ‘Jesus is accursed!’ and no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except in the Holy Spirit.” − 1 Corinthians 12:3 In the first part of that verse, Paul is simply saying that Christians don’t speak against Jesus. Think about the second part of the verse: “no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except in the Holy Spirit.” Basically, we need God to find God! Some things to think about . . .  If no one can say, “Jesus is Lord” without the help of the Holy Spirit, we know that it’s not just us looking for salvation, but God is calling people to Himself! Do you know anyone who isn’t a Christian? Think of some friends that you wish could know Jesus.

 Spend some time praying for them by name. Pray that God would call them to Himself through the Holy Spirit. Pray that Holy Spirit would give them the courage to say and really believe that “Jesus is Lord.”  You might pray that God would even use you to be a part of that! How can you share the truth of Jesus- that He died for us- with your friends?

Week 29, Devotion 3 When did you become a Christian? Try to think back to that moment. What where you thinking? What where you struggling with? Why did you respond to Jesus in that moment? Remember this verse from our lesson this week: “For the Scripture says, ‘Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’”

Romans 10:11

Think about that. Because you have placed your faith in Christ, you will not be put to shame! That means…  You will not be separated from God forever because of your sin.  You will live forever together with Christ!  You will not be judged based on your own works, but on the works of Christ! Because of Jesus, you will be seen by God as holy and blameless!  You get to live a life of faith even now! God has a personal calling for you. Spend some time in prayer thanking Jesus for His sacrifice. Thank God for loving you enough to send Jesus for you. Thank the Holy Spirit for helping you see Jesus and proclaim with your mouth and your life that “Jesus is Lord.”
