The Rescue Week 7, Devotion 1 “ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”  John 14:6 Read John 14:1-6 and pay close attention to verse 6. Jesus said some things to his 12 best friends (the disciples) that can seem confusing. However, when Thomas speaks up to admit he doesn’t know what is going on here, Jesus says something very profound: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Did you know that back in biblical times there was a special room in the Temple called “The Holy of Holies” and only priests could enter? This was the place where the presence of God resided. This was how you “got to God.” But as we mentioned, only a few could even go to be with Him. Here, Jesus is telling the disciples that the house He has for them won’t be like the house of God (Temple) here on earth. It will be one He makes for us. “To get to God” we no longer have to walk through rooms or be special. We just have to believe in who He is and be in a relationship with Him. He is it!!! He is the way back into a relationship with the Lord. Can you even begin to think about being Thomas, who had never been able to be special enough to go to that part of the Temple to sit face to face with the Lord and to have Jesus tell you that now you can do that freely and it is Him? Questions to ponder . . .  What do you think about Jesus being the way, the truth, and the life, and the ONLY way to a relationship with the Lord?  Think through what that means that God is the way, the truth, and the life. Spend some time writing down each word and brainstorming how that is exactly who Jesus is and why.

Week 7, Devotion 2 Grab a journal or a drawing app on your phone. Now, draw a picture of three doors. On one write “Way.” On one write “Truth.” And on one write “Life.” Now, take a moment and look at these three doors. Go back to the “Way” door and write one thing you know Jesus to be the “way” of for you. For the door marked “Truth,” ask yourself, “how is Jesus the door of truth for you specifically?” Write your answer on the door. For the door marked “Life,” ask yourself, “in what ways is Jesus in your life?” Write your answer on the door. Don’t overthink it. It’s OK if you have to think about it for awhile. The point is to begin to see how Jesus is that door to a relationship with God. Then, spend some time in prayer, thanking God for one thing you know to be true about Him today.

Week 7, Devotion 3 Read this quote: “Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the foundation upon which sincere and meaningful repentance must be built. If we truly seek to put away sin, we must first look to Him who is the Author of our salvation.” - Ezra Taft Benson

Questions to ponder . . .  As we spend time thinking about Jesus rescuing us from a life apart from Him, what does the quote make you think of?  Does this quote lead you to talk to God about anything? Take some time today to let God know how you feel about Him and the salvation He offered to you.
