A Weekly Newsletter of Memorial United Methodist Church November 19-25, 2017
This Monday, November 20, at 6 pm in the Chapel This will take the place of our previously scheduled Church Council meeting.
On Sunday, you will have an opportunity to add a leaf to our Gratitude Tree personalized with your statement of thanksgiving to God. Just place your completed note in the basket beneath the tree and then see how our ’tree’ fills up with expressions of gratitude. Gratitude trees are located in the Narthex and in Common Ground Gathering Area.
We are assisting with the cost of the annual Elizabethtown Community Thanksgiving Dinner (held at St. James Catholic Church) for those who would otherwise have no one to celebrate with on that day. This year we have been asked to fund the cost of 17 turkeys (@$40 ea.) and 135 pies (@ $7 ea.) for the meal. That’s a financial commitment of $1,625 needed by Nov 23. To donate, please make your check to Memorial UMC with the notation “Pies and Turkeys.” Then place your check in the offering plate or deliver it to the church office. Thanks for your generosity!
We are now collecting items for our December Food Pantry Christmas Store. This year we are collecting gently read books (devotionals, cookbooks, and children’s books are especially popular), both new and gently used artificial Christmas trees and decorations, and 2018 calendars. Please bring your donations to the collection containers in Mission Central (near Wesley Café) or in Common Ground (Bldg. C). Also, our Sock Collection Drive continues. We have found a source for good quality socks at only 20¢ a pair! If you wish to make a monetary donation toward the purchase of these socks, please write a check to MUMC with the notation “Christmas socks”. We will purchase socks for you.
During Advent, the Monday AM Women’s Bible Study group will be studying Timothy Keller’s book Hidden Christmas/The Surprising Truth Behind the Birth of Christ. Sessions will take place on Nov 27, and Dec 4, 11, and 18 at 10 am in room B205. Books are available for purchase at Lifeway Christian Bookstore. Ask at the counter for the discounted price of $12. Then come prepared to discuss the first two chapters on November 27. POC: Sherry Pile @ 502.873.8041.
