After visiting Elephant Rock, hikers start down the trail.
Officials call this hike the Big Rock Trail. Locals prefer calling it Elephant Rock Trail. As you enter Mueller Park you see a guard shack. There is parking before it and the footbridge is the start of the trail. If parking is full, drive back down to the homes and park along the road. The footbridge takes you over Mill Creek, as you start the switchbacks into the conifers. This trail is also popular with mountain bikers, so keep a watchful eye out for them. The trail opens to a view of Bountiful and the Great Salt Lake, then leaves the switchbacks. At .9 mile you get your first glimpse of Elephant Rock. Elephant Rock is easy to spot. Look up the canyon and you see a white spot in the dark grove of conifers. The trail goes into scrub oaks as it snakes around the mountain toward Elephant Rock. At. 2.7 miles, you hear sounds of a flowing spring and cross a footbridge over it. Take a moment to enjoy this wetter area as you cross three more bridges to the junction for Elephant Rock. The junction is easy to miss, so watch for a trail going left (straight) and take it. You arrive at a sitting bench above Elephant Rock. Take a seat and enjoy! End 6,260 ft.
