For a few green travel tips, pack a reusable BPA-free water bottle you can refill instead of plastic water bottles that end up in our landfills. Don’t just toss your trash away, hold onto it until you find the recycle bin. For souvenirs to tote, use reusable cloth bags while shopping.
4. Use Rechargeable Batteries For your camcorders and cameras, bring a charger and rechargeable batteries. Disposable batteries leach toxic chemicals into the earth.
5. Be a Smarter Shopper This starts when you book your green travel itinerary. Look for destinations that make preservation and sustainability a priority. Travel local; cut out runway time by just one fivehour flight and your carbon footprint will be a lot lighter. www.travelhost.com

6. Plan for Eco-Friendly Lodging Before booking a hotel, consider choosing eco-friendly lodging. Many hotels are using alternative forms of green energy through third party certifications such as ISO 14001, Green Key, Green Globe, LEED building certification, and state certification programs. While those may not always be guaranteed, stay at an off-grid hotel to save roughly 37 pounds of CO2 per day or a property off the oceanfront as it won’t contribute to beach erosion.
7. Save Energy & Water Consider conserving water by taking shorter showers and reuse sheets and towels for multiple days. Conserve energy by turning the lights off in the hotel room when you leave and place the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door so that housekeeping won’t clean your room every day.
8. Eat Local If the foods you consume haven’t been flown or trucked in, you’re saving significant emissions. Make every effort you can to seek out and support local businesses that grow, sell and serve locally-sourced ingredients.
9. Turn Off Screen Time Apart from those crucial travel apps, keep screen time to a minimum. Instead, consult with locals or hotel concierges about directions, which would be more stimulating than staring at some app on your phone.
10. Stick to the Rules Be mindful when visiting and leave nature in its natural environment. Leave nothing behind and do not remove anything like flowers, shells, coral or rocks. When hiking, always stay on marked trails and maintain a safe distance from any animals you encounter.
