Caledyne Torus Valve

Key Benefits

The Caledyne Torus valve is a fail safe closed Insert Safety Valve, which offers a permanent conduit through the centre of the valve. The valve is installed in the safety valve nipple profile and operated by the existing hydraulic control line.

Minimal number of pressure seals and hence potential leak paths. There are 3 dynamic seals and 3 static seals in the entire assembly.

The valve utilises a sliding sleeve mechanism to shut in production operated via a power spring and piston arrangement, akin to industry standard flapper type safety valves. The lower sub can be configured to fit capillary tube, fibre optic or electrical penetrators or rotary seals for insert PCPs applications, where there is a requirement for a safety barrier.

Design optimised to reduce part count and complexity.

Modular design allows the same basic valve to be configured to accept the particular penetrator for the application. Installed as per industry standard wire line insert safety valves. Easily installed on coil tubing for hanger applications, such as insert ESPs

Application Wells that require safety valves installed in combination with the following:

Tubing mounted versions are also available. The Torus Valve main body is independently tested to API 14A. Each complete Torus system is thoroughly tested in house to meet specific customer requirements.

The Torus Valve is extremely versatile, by simply changing out the bottom sub it can be utilised for many different applications

Capillary Latch

PCP pumps can be installed in wells requiring safety valves by installing a bottom sub with rotational seals. Utilising the Torus valve allows PCP pumps to offer an artificial lift solution to the offshore market in particular in harsh, sandy, more mature environments.

Self-set Lock

The Balance Pump is a hydraulically actuated reciprocating low volume pump, which may be used to remove water from gas producing wells. The pump is operated by two hydraulic lines, one oil filled, the other water filled.

Utilising the Torus Valve in capillary string applications allows for a permanent or semipermanent capillary installation through the existing TRSCSSV without compromising safety. With check valves in the injection string the Torus system presents a full fail safe closed barrier. Capillary string installations are ideal solutions for deliquification and chemical injection. Listed below are typical applications whereby the Torus Insert Safety Valve, can enhance production saving both time and money: Liquid Loading Watered out gas wells can be brought back to production by injection of a foaming agent through a capillary string. Utilising a Torus valve with a permanent capillary string installation allows wells to be stimulated on a regular basis, reducing the need for intervention work on wells with a high level of water ingress. Should further deliquification be required the Caledyne Balance Pump can be used for the final stages in gas production. Scale Build up The build up of scale is a common problem in many oil wells typically resolved by installing a chemical injection line on the outside of the production tubing. If no chemical injection line has been fitted during completion installation, the Torus valve provides a solution allowing continuous stimulation of chemicals through the centre of the valve, avoiding costly intervention work. Corrosion As with scale build up, the injection of corrosion inhibitors on a continuous basis reducing the need for intervention may be accomplished using the Torus system. Monitoring Both semi-permanent and permanent installation of real time data acquisition can be achieved by installation of a gauge or fibre optic cable through the centre of the Torus valve providing operators with valuable downhole well performance information. Insert Gas Lift Enhancing production through gas lift typically requires installation of gas lift mandrels during the completion installation phase. Insert gas lift at the optimum depth can be achieved through the Torus safety valve with minimal down time thus enhancing production.
