It is time once again for the greatest rivalry in the state of Alabama, when Tide fans and Tiger fans compete to see who can collect the most non-perishable food items and cash to benefit the Christian Love Pantry. Over 8 years this event has raised over $40,000 plus collected nearly 10,000 food items. We'll be in front of Walmart from 8am-4pm on Saturday, November 18 and then again at the church from 8am until noon on Sunday, when the winner will be determined. Come join in the fun! Contact the church office to volunteer for your favorite team!!

The “Marnie Button” When Kelly and I first got married, I was driving a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse. It was a sporty little car that had traveled many a mile between Alabama and Kentucky to Virginia to Arkansas and back to Alabama. I loved that old car. It didn’t have power locks or power windows (real sacrificial, huh) but had a zippy little 4-cylinder engine scooted down the road with five speeds on the floor. That car’s been out of our lives since we started thinking about having kids I guess, but we still remember it fondly. The thing Kelly and I remember the most about that car was a unique feature it had: the “Marnie Button”. When we had been married for a year, with me freshly graduated from seminary and we worked at Passport Mission Camps for the summer. One day we were driving around with Marnie Fisher, one of our fellow staff members, and it was hot. The AC was on but this was central Florida in July. Marnie, sitting in the front seat, reached out and pressed this little button beside the AC controls. It turned from green to blue and the air suddenly got a lot cooler. Who knew? I had been driving that car for four years, had told Kelly not to push that button before and was convinced it had no purpose...until Marnie pushed the button. Now, even though that car is long gone, every car since has had a “Marnie button”. On November 15, following a fundraiser dinner for youth ministry, our District Superintendent Dr. Clinton Hubbard will lead a Church Conference where all professing members will vote on the recommendations designed for us by the Rev. Bob Alford. Some of these recommendations are things we may have already known about ourselves, but there is value to having someone name it alongside you and then walk with you toward continued health. I encourage you to attend the Town Hall meetings on October 29 or November 2 and I ask you to vote in favor of these recommendations on November 15. Together, let’s press the “Marnie Button”.
—Blessings, Byron “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.“ —Isaiah 1:17

Suzanne’s Holiday Meal ministry serves meals to over 175 people in need each holiday season for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Many of these people are those we serve through our loaves and Fishes ministry each week. We are in short supply of volunteers for the Thanksgiving meal this year and need assistance in a number of ways such as cooking a dish, assisting in the kitchen the day of delivery or delivering meals. Some of these activities take place on Thanksgiving morning but in no case is more than an hour of your time needed. Please prayerfully consider and contact Jan Sweatman at (205)492-9461 or
[email protected] if you can find a moment to help.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry invites you to join them on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month in the Fellowship Hall. Contact Wanda Smith 205-525-1776 or Dorothy Miller 205-338-0765 for all the details.
