The Fruit of the Spirit...is way more than a banana!
family challenge for Parents
So what’s up with the fruit? The word “fruit” is not literally the fruit we eat, but what we as Christians produce. An orange tree produces oranges...a Christian produces the fruit of the Spirit. We can find out more about this fruit in Galatians 5:22-23a, “But the fruit of the Spirit islove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Can others see the fruit in you?
What did you say? Listening doesn’t always come naturally; nor does obeying. Today, your kids were challenged to listen to and obey Jesus. Here’s what they studied: After Jesus ascended into heaven, the early church began. The apostles and disciples spread the gospel and more people began to believe in and follow Jesus. Persecution of these new Christians started. A man named Saul was well-known for his wrath against Jesus’ followers. That is, until he met Jesus on the road to Damascus. Because of that encounter, Saul, a sworn enemy of Jesus, made the wise decision to listen to and obey the Son of God. Like Zacchaeus, who we studied a few weeks ago, Saul became a changed man. By his example, he teaches us to faithfully listen to and obey Jesus!
LOVE faithfulness gentleness PA T I ENCE PEACE GOODNESS Kindness JOY
Take the Family Challenge Have your kids make a sign for a large container that says, “Listen and obey.” Whenever you see your child listen and obey, add a jelly bean to the jar. For multiple children, assign specific colors of beans to each child. Have a contest to see who listens and obeys most in your house.
SELF-CONTROL Color in the fruit of the Spirit.

For three days after he saw the bright light, what couldn’t Saul do? 4. How did Saul know Ananias was coming to help him — God told him or he received a phone call? 5. What did God want Saul to do? 6. Did Saul choose to listen to and obey Jesus? 7. What did Saul’s name change to after he believed in Jesus? Answers: 1. Yes. 2. A bright light. 3. He could not see. 4. THINK RIGHT Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6 As a family, sit in the dark in a circle. Pass a flashlight around the circle as you say the verse. When the verse ends, whoever has the flashlight then says the verse like a super star.
FEEL RIGHT I can feel joyful as I listen to and obey Jesus.
