21st March 2014 Dear Parent/Guardian CELEBRATION OF BOOKS AND READING MONDAY 24th MARCH – FRIDAY 28th MARCH As part of our celebrations for World Book Day and to tie in with the Book Fair visit we have organised a range of activities to promote books and reading for pleasure. We would like everyone in school to drop everything and read (D.E.A.R) for 10 minutes every day from 9.30 am. TEACHERS TOO! We have launched a Book Cover Design Competition and the winning entries will be on display during the book fair. Entries need to be in by Monday 24th March. There will also be a number of competitions, puzzles and book related activities throughout the week. On Thursday 27th March we will be having a visit by David Lucas, an author and illustrator. He will be spending the day working with the children, talking about what it is like to be a writer and what it takes to produce a story book. You can find out more about David on his website, www.davidlucas.org.uk. These are examples of some of his published works.
You can buy signed copies of his books. These need to be ordered in advance on the attached order sheet. If you would like to view the books before ordering they will be available at the main school reception all next week during Book Week, please ask our office staff for the samples. Please note the ordered books will be sent home via your child before we break up for the Easter holiday. The order sheet has the complete list of books available with prices. Ordered must be received by Friday 28th March 2014. Lastly please try and visit our Book Fair, open after school every day next week until 4.00 p.m. Don’t forget if you have not already used your £1 World Book Day Voucher it can be used at the Book Fair.
