THE SERIES: First meeting. LAST TIME OUT: Last Saturday, December 10, NJCU defeated CCNY, 62-50. Alnisa Hernaiz led the Gothic Knights with a career high 19 points, shooting 8-14 from the field. Rookie Luisa Montalvo also scored in double figures for the Gothic Knights with 16 points, while adding four rebounds and two steals. Jade Medley continued her impressive play off the bench for NJCU and contributed seven points, seven rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes of play. As a team, NJCU shot 41.3 percent. HERNAIZ IS BLAZIN’: Alnisa Hernaiz has scored in double figures in three of her last four games, and achieved career highs twice last week. She has reached double figures five times this year and has collected two double-digit rebounding efforts. JADE IS TWO-SPORT SPARKLING: After being NJCU’s most productive player during the women’s volleyball season this fall, rookie Jade Medley has emerged over the past three games to be a key spark off the women’s basketball bench. She had a breakout game against New Rochelle, helping NJCU to gain their first victory of the season. Medley scored a career high of 12 points and added five rebounds and four steals. In the win against CCNY, Medley dished out a career high of four assists. KEEPING IT CLOSE: Despite having five losses, NJCU has limited high scoring by its opposition. NJCU has allowed only 56.9 points per game while scoring 55.9.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION SEASON UPDATE: Vaughn, a first-year women’s program, is seeking its first-ever victory after starting the year 0-4. They have faced King’s College twice, as well as The Cooper Union. In its last game, Vaughn fell to Berkeley (NY) on December 9, 101-11. HEY! WE KNOW YOU!: Before coming to NJCU, current Gothic Knight head coach Amy Mulligan was known as a jack-of-all trades at Vaughn. From 2008 to 2011, Mulligan served as the head men’s basketball coach at Vaughn as well as the Athletic Director and Director of Student Affairs. All of her efforts were noted, as Mulligan was selected as the 2010-11 Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference Basketball Coach of the Year before coming to Jersey City. ***THE NCAA, ECAC, NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE AND NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY PROMOTE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BY STUDENT-ATHLETES, COACHES, STAFF AND SPECTATORS.
