1 VISION STATEMENT FROM ACCRA GIRLS’ SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Delivered by Deborah Nana Yaa Apprey Date: 26th November 2015 Venue: Mensvic Hotel, Accra ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PROVISION OF QUALITY EDUCATION/TRIANING As students and future leaders, we need to be educated in such a way that the knowledge, skills and values that we acquire enable us to fit into society with ease. Therefore, we believe that the curriculum for schools should be developed in such a way that students come out with the requisite expertise to fit into all facets of life. As an institution, Accra Girls’ Senior High School believes in the holistic development of the child. We want a future where our students are trained to develop appropriate skills to acquire academic excellence and high moral values that enable us to become disciplined, hardworking and productive citizens. The appropriate systems should be put in place to train the students. In view of this, the curriculum, should be well developed to become relevant to industry and general life after school. To this end, teachers must be given subject-specific training. This will ensure specialisation. Teaching and learning should continue to be learnercentred and activity-based, with relevant field trips. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT There is also the need for massive infrastructural development to provide more classrooms and laboratories to accommodate the increasing number of students that are passing the BECE and WASSCE. Our classrooms should be adequately stocked with modern teaching and learning materials to make teaching and learning more interesting and interactive. TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL EDUCATION It is our hope that technical education will be given a boost. The concept that students who do not gain admission into senior high school should be able to earn a living with the technical education they got in junior high school should be made a reality. Research should be instituted to follow up on those students who drop out, to check on how they are faring. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITES Opportunities should be created for students at all levels of the educational ladder to gain some form of employment. This will enable us to use the skills and knowledge we have acquired to help solve societal problems, which is primarily what education is all about. 2 We should be able to modernise and mechanise agriculture and serve as source of skilled labour for manufacturing and service industries. We should also be able to start our own enterprises with favourable tax incentives and market opportunities. By this route, we will be able to compete favorably with our foreign counterparts. ZERO TOELRANCE FOR CORRUPTION We want a future where the will to fight perceived and actual corruption becomes a reality instead of existing only on paper. We expect the various institutions mandated to deal with corruption to take the bull by the horns and ensure that justice is served without fear or favour. These institutions should also be strengthened to perform their constitutional mandate effectively. SOUND ECONOMIC POLICIES Finally, we desire a future where successive governments institute sound economic policies, with all the economic indicators pointing to steady growth, an economy that offers incentives for small- and medium-scale businesses to develop and an economy where inflation is controlled. Thank you.
