1 VISION STATEMENT BY E. P. C. MAWUKO GIRLS’ SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Date: 21st October, 2015 Venue: Chances Hotel, Ho ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Chairperson, The Regional Minister, Volta Regional Director of Education, Chiefs, Heads of schools, Distinguished guests, Other dignitaries duly recognised; We deem it an honour to be called upon to deliver the vision statement of our school for Ghana. Opportunity, they say, comes but once and we the students of Mawuko Girls’ Senior High School rise to meet this great opportunity to give a speech on the theme, “The future we want as a nation”. Ghana over the years cannot boast of being called a developed country, because it is still at a tender stage of development. Thus, as a developing country our vision for this country in the next ten years to come is that we have a restructured educational system that seeks to identify a child’s potential and train that child accordingly, an improved agricultural sector that enables farmers to produce a variety of products on a large scale to satisfy the domestic market and export the rest, and an improved sanitation culture that educates the citizenry on the need to create and maintain a filth-free country. A restructured education system, which will be practical-based as compared to theory. As we all know, we truly remember 10 percent of what we hear, 80 percent of what we see, 70 percent of what we say and 90 percent of what we do. So, practicing most of what we learn will be of great help to the country. As the future generation, we envisage that our educational system be restructured in a way that a child’s potential can be discovered and trained accordingly. Also, an improved agricultural sector will help elevate Ghana from its current state as a developing country to that of a developed country. 2 are still practiced, that is, the use of cutlasses and hoes. In this age of technological advancement, greater use of modern equipment and tools should be incorporated into agriculture. Peasant farmers should be given some training and if possible, some capital to increase their production appropriately.
Similarly, improved sanitation in the country will help Ghana gain the prestige accorded to countries with impeccable sanitary conditions. If we compare Singapore’s level of sanitation 10 years ago to what pertains now, you will realise that there has been tremendous improvement. Singapore is now ranked one of the neatest countries in the world. I believe Ghana also can attain such heights. I envisage that in the next 10 years, Ghana will be ranked one of the neatest countries in the world. The entire citizenry should be educated on the need for creating a filth-free Ghana. There should be a concentric approach system which starts from our homes, then together we work on the outside. The National Sanitation Day should also be encouraged and observed by all citizens. Ghana should also adopt the recycling system to control the volume of waste we generate. Finally, in the next few years, our nation should have good leaders who help the country move faster towards the objective of graduating into a fully developed country. Successive governments should continue projects initiated by previous governments to maintain sustainable development. This would entail a stabilised economy where the cedi will appreciate in value against other currencies. Also, our leaders should be strong activists against corruption. This implies that they should be fair in their dealings. Chairperson, Regional Minister, Volta Regional Director of Education, Chiefs, Heads of schools, distinguished guests, all these visions are achievable through collective determination, hard work and perseverance. Thank you.
