VISION STATEMENT OF KONONGO ODUMASE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTED BY MISS LOIS AMANING, SENIOR GIRLS PREFECT, DURING THE LAUNCH OF THE ASHANTI REGIONAL FORUM ON THE LONG-TERM NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN, 13 T H AUGUST, 2015, KUMASI Mr. Chairman, Director-General NDPC, Ashanti Regional Minister, Municipal and District Chief Executives, representatives of various political parties, Nananom, Heads of Departments, distinguished guests, members of the press, ladies and gentlemen, it is a privilege to be called upon to state my vision for Ghana in the next 40 years. Policy makers and stakeholders of our education sector have tried but they have not been able to come up with a system that can stand the test of time. Indeed, lip-service has been given to the realisation of the prime objectives of vocational, technical, arts and science education over the years. What has happened to our longstanding goals of making science, technical and vocational education practical? The over-concentration on the theoretical aspects of these courses, from the viewpoint of the young generations, should be consigned to history. We envisage a Ghana where a deliberate policy is rolled out to ensure the provision of quality tools and equipment to train the youth in order to equip them with the requisite skills and knowledge to deal with our industrial, commercial, agriculture and environmental challenges. Again, this would imbue the youth with directly employable skills for the world of work. Another point worth mentioning, Mr. Chairman, is the total decentralization in the various administrative sectors of our nation. Administrative powers are mostly concentrated in the centre. It is quite worrying to see our parents send documents regarding their employment inputs to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department in Accra. We would like to see, soon, a total devolution of the powers concentrated at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department in Accra to, at least, their regional offices. This would eradicate some administrative bottlenecks and also reduce bureaucracy to the barest minimum. EDUCATION In the next 40 years, Ghana should have an educational system that is vocational, technical and scientifically based and aims at solving problems in the economy HEALTH We dream to have in the next 40 years an effective, efficient and modern health care delivery system that is physically and economically accessible.

ENVIRONMENT We dream of having a sustainable environment with society adopting good practices towards the protection of natural reserves, efficient waste management systems and positive attitudes of citizens towards sanitation. TRANSPORTATION We envisage Ghana with an ultra-modern public transport system. ECONOMY We look forward to a Ghana with a productive agriculture sector dominated by the youth producing on commercial basis, an efficient industrial sector that depends on local and recycled raw materials and a services sector that employs advanced technology capable of providing the services needs of the country ENERGY In the next 40 years, we dream of a country with adequate and reliable energy that is sustainable for domestic and industrial use. OVERALL VISION We want to have a democratic country with well-planned infrastructure and services directed towards well-coordinated development. To achieve this, discipline cannot be left out. People must be educated on the set goals nationwide to understand that though a 70-year-old man may not see the end result of the 40-year development plan, the unborn child may enjoy it tomorrow.
