MATCH NOTES
Opening Kick A pair of nationally-ranked programs take to the pitch this evening in a big Centennial Conference match-up. Johns Hopkins enters tonight's affair ranked 16th by the United Soccer Coaches and seventh by D3soccer.com, while Gettysburg is ranked 20th by the same website. The Series Johns Hopkins holds a 50-21-10 lead over Gettysburg in the all-time series that stretches all the way back to 1936. The Bullets are seeking their first win over Hopkins since 2009, with the Blue Jays going 6-0-2 over the last eight meetings. Last Time Out Gettysburg outshot Lebanon Valley 14-5, but the Flying Dutchmen scored a pair of second-half goals to hand the Bullets their first loss of the season in a non-conference tilt Wednesday evening here at Clark Field. Cam Avery made four of his five saves in the second period for LVC while senior Max Karen made one stop for the Bullets. The loss snapped Gettysburg's 10-match unbeaten streak at home. Player of the Week For the second time this season, senior forward Patrick Santini was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. In his lone outing last week, Santini registered his second career hat trick, scoring three goals over the first 16 minutes of a 3-0 victory at Washington College in the team's Centennial Conference opener. For the year, he has racked up 18 points on eight goals and two assists. His quick start has placed him among the leading scorers in Division III, as he is
tied for fourth in points per game (3.00) and tied for seventh in goals per game (1.33). In the Rankings Gettysburg has been recognized at both the regional and national levels in the early going this season. The Bullets have appeared in each of the first two D3soccer.com Top-25 polls, moving up one spot to No. 20 this week. They have also been ranked No. 5 in each of the first two United Soccer Coaches Division III Mid-Atlantic Region polls. Last Meeting with Johns Hopkins Jeff Schaefer scored in the 87th minute, but the Bullets came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision at Johns Hopkins last season. Arden Chew scored in the fifth minute for the Blue Jays before Liam Moylan netted what held up as the game-winner in the 21st minute. Gettysburg held a 21-9 shot advantage, but Bryan See made eight saves for Hopkins. Thomas Keane finished with five stops for the Bullets. Scouting Johns Hopkins At 7-0, the Blue Jays are off to their best start in 10 years. They have outscored their opponents 20-1 and rank fourth in Division III in goals-against average (0.14). Offensively, sophomore Achim Younker has enjoyed a strong start with a Centennial Conferenceleading 10 goals. He is tied for third in Division III with 1.43 goals per game.
