If you ordered a 2015-16 Indiahoma Warrior yearbook, they have arrived and are available for pick up in the library. Our books look really great this year and we are proud of the job that our two, count them, two yearbook class students did in creating the book. It was a lot of work for such a small staff, but our 96 page, full-color yearbook is top notch. If you did not secure your copy of the yearbook, then it is not too late. Ms. Whitman ordered a few extras in hopes that they would be in demand from the students, parents and community. The price for a

During the 2015-16 school year, Indiahoma school students earned a collective $540.00 in cash and prizes for their artwork. Students accomplished this by competing in three local posters contests. A great time to pick up your 2015-16 yearbook, or purchase one if you have not done so, is at the upcoming ice cream social. The open-house event will be held on August 30th this year. Ms. Whitman and her new yearbook staff will be on hand to pass out pre-paid books, or sale you a copy for a mere $25.00. Cont. from pg 1. The Comanche County Farm Bureau hosts its own poster contest every year to promote farm safety. Students in Mrs. Strong’s weekly library class learned how to locate books with pictures of farm animals in the library. They also took on a few art lessons. The class, along with 5th grade student Kentlee Abbott, who took the challenge on her own, brought four of the top five prizes to Indiahoma! Jasmon Surman placed second, earning $30.00, Sarah Whitman 3rd for $25.00, Kentlee Abbott 4th for $20.00 and Kylee Elliot placed 5th with a prize of $15.00. The final contest entered was the Lawton International Festival poster design. The posters are used to advertise the annual festival held at Elmer Thomas Park each September. Indiahoma art students took on the subjects of lettering, graphic design and the math of centering words and phrases as they created their masterpieces. The result was $430.00 dollars worth of prize money for the students as well as a first graphic design gig for one senior. Two fifth grade students tied for first place in the K-5th category. Scout Neuegbauer and Grace Steckley each received a $50.00 prize. 5th grader Jim Haney won $30.00 for his second place entry. In the 6-8th grade category, 6th grade student Madilynn Pierson won first for $50.00. Alanna Zelek placed second in the 9-12th grade category, earning $30.00. The top winner this year was Indiahoma senior Elizabeth Jones, taking home a collective $220.00 for her International Poster design. She placed not only in the 9 -12th age category, but she topped all the other categories, including the adult, to win the overall poster design! She will be honored at the festival and her art will be used to create advertising posters, t-shirts, brochures and other marketing materials for the festival. All of the design winners are on display in the lobby of McMahon Memorial Auditorium. Free posters will be available at the Arts & Humanities office on the west side of McMahon Auditorium in early September.
