Dear Raider Nation, I hope you had a wonderful holiday and a great kickoff to the New Year! Old Man Winter has finally reached Central New York, as lower temps and lakeeffect snow have arrived. I can't complain as I annually head to Southern California to visit with my family and friends during the holidays. Of course, many of my friends in Cali are Colgate alums, former staff and administrators. Although there never seems to be enough time to see them all, you never know when a Colgate name will pop up. For example, while home, I had a consult with an oral surgeon. Small world being what it is, I discovered that his daughter went to Colgate and he's also the dentist of John Cushman '63!! Let's face it, Colgate people are everywhere! The Colgate tree is strong and its branches and roots reach all over the world. I love telling people that we have a student body of only 2,800 and then seeing the shocked expression they have on their faces. Our fall sport accolades keep coming in. Our final national ranking for football is (drum roll please) #13! Coach Dan Hunt received ECAC Division 1 FCS Football Coach of the Year. Congratulations to senior Ben Andersen, who was named to the FCS Athletic Directors Academic AllStar Team! How about our women's hockey team defeating Cornell 43, something that this program hasn't done since 2009? This has been a recordbreaking season for Coach Fargo and the Raiders with much more hockey left to go. Swimming & Diving opened its spring season by hosting a dual meet with Boston University. Congrats to senior Lindsey Sagasta and Erica Silverman '19, who won two races each, and to senior Andrew Hacker and Anders Brekke '19 for individual wins. I have a feeling 2016 will be a great year for the Raiders! I wish the same for you as well! Go 'gate, Vicky
Photo 1: Brion Applegate '76, trustee and chair of the athletics committee, treated me to a wonderful lunch at the Bel Air Hotel (I had the Nancy Reagan Chopped Salad). I can't say enough great things about Brion and we all can't thank him enough for the support he continually shows to Colgate and to our athletics department. He is a great example of a former Colgate student athlete. Photo 2: A CUselfie with Carrie Clifford '93 (she loves to tell me how much younger she is than me), on the far right. Carrie was performing at the "iO" (considered to be LA's best improv comedy place) with her improv partner David Razowsky, the one wearing glasses. It was a standingroomonly crowd and we all thoroughly enjoyed the show! It was terrific catching up with another former Colgate studentathlete. I know Carrie's parents, Keena and Chris Clifford '67, (former board of trustee chair), are very proud of her! Photo 3: My cousin Joyce Chang (the other Asian in the photo wearing a Colgate shirt), Principal Deputy County Counsel for the MTA, introduced me to the City of Angels Boxing Gym. The first thing I saw was a UCLA and USC banner ... are you thinking what I'm thinking? Soon there will be a Colgate banner! Expert trainer Dawn North (in the center of photo) has agreed to come to Colgate for a week to provide training for our studentathletes, faculty, staff and community! Only the best for Colgate! Photo 4: Many thanks to Nathalie Carter, our assistant athletics director for marketing and promotions, for implementing and organizing our first Kids Day game! This year it was for our women's basketball game and we had over 700 screaming children in Coterell Court! It was an incredible experience for everyone!
