Dear Raider Nation, Who would think that I'm writing from the warmest and sunniest place in the Northeast? ... Hamilton, NY! And who would guess that Hamilton, NY has turned into a movie set? The movie "Pottersville" is being filmed here with a recognizable director (Ron Perlman ... remember him in Hellboy?) and actors (Michael Shannon, the bad guy in Man of Steel; Judy Greer from Jurassic World; Christina Hendricks from Mad Men; and Thomas Lennon from Reno 911). Welcome 2016! Speaking of movies, I recently returned from the Board of Trustees meeting in blizzardbound NYC on train 63 and I felt I was in a scene from "Escape from New York." As always, the board meeting was filled with passionate dialogue of genuine concern regarding what is best for Colgate. Many thanks to board chair Dan Hurwitz '86 P'17, who ran a scheduled twoday agenda in one day, with full consideration given to all issues. Our men's basketball team's last four Patriot League wins may be a shock to the preseason voters, but it isn't to any of us who know Coach Langel, his staff or his players. Women's basketball picked up a nice Patriot League win over Boston University (my cousin's son is a sophomore at BU, so I will always point out all wins over them in my newsletter! haha). Women's ice hockey, nationally ranked at #10, continues to prove the preseason rankings wrong. Our Raiders have already qualified for an ECAC Hockey playoff spot! Our men's ice hockey team continues to battle hard with a short bench. I am optimistic for a successful run to Lake Placid. Both men's and women's track & field and swimming & diving programs were competing at Cornell. Although we did not come out with team wins, there were many individual successes. The Class of 1965 Arena continues to move forward on budget and on time! Currently, you will only see a wall when viewing our live cam that's because the place is already enclosed. The good news is that we will be moving our cam inside so you will be able to view the interior work. Wishing you a State of Emergency free couple of weeks, and looking forward to connecting again in our next newsletter. Go 'gate, Vicky
Photo 1: It was a sincere pleasure meeting John Colgate '57 (on the left) and Maurie Eaton '60 (on the right) in NYC at a dinner honoring emeritus trustees. Their witty humor and love for Colgate is contagious!! Photo 2: I missed some excitement while in NYC. Coach Langel sent me this photo of a helicopter landing in front of the Colgate Inn. This was a part of the filming of "Pottersville." I can't see this ever happening again unless they make a sequel! Photo credit: Matt Langel. Photo 3: I was very fortunate to spend time with former women's lacrosse standout and captain Kate Bergstrom '11 at the NCAA Convention in Texas. Kate was recently hired as the assistant director for administration at the America East Conference. Their commissioner told me that Kate is doing a great job ... never a doubt in my mind.
