As we begin a brand new year, we are gearing up as a church destined for greatness. The Psalmist reminds us to follow his lead when he said, “Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” Is your faith strong enough to realize that God is already in the process of doing His good work in you and through you? We are gearing up for greatness because we serve a great God who desires to use us for His honor and glory. William Carey said, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” In the great

commandment after being asked what is the most important, He said, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” As we love God and each other including those inside the church family and those outside, God will begin to change our lives. So I ask you, church, a very important question: Are you ready to deny self and follow Jesus? If so, He has already given us our marching orders. Jesus plainly tells us, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the
Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” It’s a new day! It is time to get on the bus. It is God’s desire for us as His church to live in such a way as to draw others right into His presence. May we come together in worship and be inspired to trust Jesus with all of our life. May we come together in Sunday School classes and Life Groups in discipleship as we learn God’s way, and figure out together how we will apply the teaching in our lives, and then go down that path together as a church family in unity. As we pray for each other, encourage each other, and follow Jesus in obedience together, I know the best is yet to come!
