Well, better late then never. Our Duck race took place on Saturday, September 17 at Hollow Park. Lion Billy H. and Lion President Billy B. did an outstanding job uniting the troops to sell duck tickets. Lion Don Heavens sold the most tickets this year—see what you can do when you are retired. We sold over 3000 ducks—that’s a lot of quacking! The winners of this years duck race were: Rudy Mazurosky ($1000), Paul Coppola ($500), Cindy Wargo ($250), Tom Story ($100 gift certificate John’s Restaurant), Beverly Carlone ($100 Gift Certificate Carlito’s Restaurant), Sumner Fish ($100 gift certificate Carole Peck’s Restaurant), Karl Lindahl ($75 gift certificate Murray Brothers Garage), and Dan Carnese ($50 gift certificate Plant Country).

Our net was over $11,500. The money will go for sight and hearing that includes funding a FIDELCO dog. Lions, job well done. Photos by Lions Dave Ahouse and Gary Greenstein

CANDY CORN AND PUMPKIN CONTESTS On Wednesday, October 19th first and second place awards were given to the Kindergarten through 5th grade students at Bethlehem and Mitchell Elementary Schools. The Kindergarten through 2nd grade students had to guess the number of candy corn in a jar; and, the 3rd through 5th graders had to guess the pumpkin weight. The first and second place winners from each grade at each school were given hayride tickets and ice

cream certificates, respectively. The ice cream certificates came from Dairy DeLite. The first and second place winners from Mitchell school are presented in the photo. Ms. Torre, Mitchell’s Principal, is at the far right. The big guy with the orange sweat shirt is our own Lion Chet Gage. Lion Chet and his wife, Pat, organized the event. GREAT JOB!

HAUNTED HAYRIDE We were lucky this year. We were able to have our hayride 3 out of the 4 nights. The 4th day and night was the storm from hell. Because of the changes that occurred during the year we revitalized our hayride. Lions Frank Longo, Kerry Simmons, Russ Domareck, Rowland Travis and TJ D’Alexander, came through with a fantastic 3-D haunted barn. Thanks, also to

Geri Travis and Kelly Simmons for there help as well. The Lions who helped set-up the barn made 40 panels that can be used for future haunted barn events. Overall it was an outpouring of genuine effort by the Lions that led to one of the best hayrides we have had. We were able to raise over $21,000 gross for our scholarship fund and other charities we give.

This year a special effort was put-in by all and it paid off. JOB WELL DONE! On with the photos—Lions Dennis Yates and Gary Greenstein.

FLAGS, COMMUNITY SERVICES AND GIVING TREE From Veteran’s Day to Thanksgiving the American Flags are flown with pride along Main Street. Lion Chet Gage organizes this patriotic event. We are very proud of our troops, our vets and our fallen who continue to protect our freedoms. Job well done! Each year the Woodbury Lions give a donation to Community Services . This year was no exception. We were able to give a $1000 check to this generous organization. This check will hopefully help some Woodbury residents who are having hard times. At the top left photo Lion President Billy B. is giving Community Services Chairman Bob Taylor the

check. The Woodbury Lions also help the Woodbury community by selections made from the Giving Tree. Labels with monetary amounts and store names are selected from a Christmas tree. Lion Karl Lindahl (at lower left) chairs the event. This year we were able to give $840 in gift cards to Bob Taylor who will distribute the gifts.

CHRISTMAS PARTY BIG SUCESS This year’s Christmas party was held at Lion Peter Perkinson’s and his wife Barbara’s home. What a beautiful home they have. The previous week their home was a show case home for the Woodbury open-house. The delicious appetizers were catered by Lisa Cassidy and the liquor, served by Gayle Murphy, at far right (Lion Lou DeLuca’s daughter) was plentiful. Everyone was dressed in red and looked marvelous. No accordion player this year—therefore no Dominic the Donkey. Thank

you Lion Peter and Barbara for a great event, and now on to the photos.

BANDSTAND AND LUMINARIA For the Christmas holiday the Woodbury Lions have 2 events: Bandstand decoration and the Luminaria. This year was no exception. Lion Jim Conway did a fantastic job with the bandstand—he not only supplied decorations but coffee and donuts as well. Did everybody get a chance to see the Luminaria? They were fantastic! Great job Chair Lion Tom—did you see

the Leos at the Green? They had the Green decorated in 1 hour—thanks to Lion Ken’s organization skills. I went out at 6 PM to see the lights and everything was lit—no bag burn-ups or candle burnouts. People were cruising along Main Street all night— a truly spectacular event. Can you guess who is the mysterious Lion lighting a candle in the right photo?

PRESIDENTS CORNER As the holiday season winds down we all have much to be thankful for, if we just think about it a little. Our health, our families, our friends and our work, for starters. Together we get to enjoy the fun and work of being Lions together. We raise money and get to give it away—that’s what we do, and quite well by the looks of it. The Christmas Luminarias were a great success this year due to many people, most notably, Lions

Tom Story and Gary Ross. The Haunted Hay ride was terrific as well under the able leadership of Lion Gary Greenstein. The flags on Main Street were also a hit, headed up by Lion Chet Gage. Obviously, many other Lions, spouses, and friends helped out to make all these events very worthwhile indeed. In April 2012 we will have our Antique Auction. We

only do this event every five years or so, as it is quite a lot of work. We have almost 3 months to prepare but time goes by quickly. Please Participate. I would like to thank all of you for your support—the 1st half of the Lions year is already over! I hope that you derive as much pride and joy as I do by being a Lion. Your President—Lion Billy B.
