l o o h c S y r a im r P d r Woodfo Newsletter Dear Parents/Carers MULTI ACADEMY TRUST UPDATE FROM THE CHAIR OF GOVERNORS—MAY 2016 Several weeks ago I informed you, via the Newsletter, that the commencement of the Plym Academy Trust (a multi academy trust between Woodford and Boringdon) had been delayed due to legal reasons beyond our control. As time has progressed, the issue between PCC and the solicitors for the Department for Education surrounding land leases at Woodford, has not been resolved. We have therefore been instructed to push the start date of the academy back until 1st June 2016. I will update you with developments as they come to light. Sensibly, work continues behind the scenes to ensure that the new trust will hit the ground running, with full structure and policies in place, for whatever the final commencement date is. Several local primary schools have expressed an interest in joining the trust. I an now confirm that Chaddlewood, Plympton St Maurice and Glen Park have all received their Academy Orders, and are hoping to join us on 1st August 2016. This date, as we have seen, may change but the concept should not. Trustees, Senior Leaders and Local Advisory Boards are in place to ensure that the transition from a local authority funded primary school, to a 5 school multi academy (The Plym Academy Trust) takes place as smoothly as possible, with no unnecessary negative effects on the children. With only the benefits to look forward to, this is beyond everything else, our key goal. Yours Sincerely Debbie Johns Chair of Governors

The Big Pedal The results are in! We have had the results from the Big Pedal challenge and I am really pleased to say that Woodford came 2nd place across the city! This is a fantastic achievement and we would like to thank all who cycled or scooted to school over the week-just over 50% of you! We are continuing to encourage active travel to school. Children are still more than welcome to cycle or scooter. Please leave bikes and scooters in previously designated area. School Parliament are working on a whole school active travel incentive which we will be able to share with you in the coming weeks.

Year 6 Football Team The year 6 boys’ football team continued what has been one of Woodford’s most successful seasons ever this week as they progressed to the Plymouth City Knockout Cup Final on Tuesday afternoon. Having previously beaten Victoria Road (12-0), Montpelier (5-0) and Manadon Vale (1-1, 2-0 on penalties) the boys enjoyed a 6-1 victory against Bickley Down in the semifinal, meaning they are now only 40 minutes away from glory. In the final, next Tuesday, our local rivals Boringdon will be our opponents! Players: Andrew, Brandon, Elliot, Lewis, Taylor, Alex, Ryan, Harrison and Mathew (Beech and Willow Class) Written by Andrew S, Lewis B and Elliot E (all from Willow). NEXT WEEK IN SCHOOL SATs WEEK
