[email protected] K-5 Fall Book Swap – Yorktown Community Schools welcomes you to attend the book swap on Tuesday, October 24th at Pleasant View Elementary (PVE). Club Pick Up Reminder: Student Pick-Up Information – We will be using the YES student pick-up procedures for our YES Club pick-up. We will have many children getting picked up at the same time, so we ask for your patience during this time. We have made some changes from last year in order to speed-up the line and make it run safer. Here is a description of this procedure: YES has offered car tags that will hang on your rear view mirrors. Families were given 1 tag at the beginning of the school year. If you have not received a car tag, please call the office to
have one sent home with your child. Please put your child’s FIRST and LAST name(s) on the tags, and have them in your window. This will help us speed up the pick-up procedure. When picking up your child, parents will line up in the car pick up/drop line. Parents are NOT to park in the gravel driveway to pick-up their children. This creates a safety concern when students have to cross the parking lot. Parents will need to enter this line from SR 32, not through the YMS parking lot. All parents will need to stay in their place in line. This line may get long at times but understand that this is for our student’s safety and to make sure the line runs smoothly. Staff will bring students to the first 4-5 cars in line. When these cars pull out, the next 4-5 cars will pull up. This will keep the line moving in one direction without cars having to pull out in the middle. All parents will need to stay in their cars during this time. Staff will bring the students to your car. You will need to have your car tag displayed in the window. This will allow staff to see who you are picking up and bring your child to you. When a child is getting into the vehicle, it is safer and quicker for all children to get in on the passenger side of the car. If a child has to go to the driver’s side of the car, please make sure an adult stops traffic to ensure your child’s safety. It is important for parents to be cautious while they are in the pick-up line. We ask that parents do not use their cell phones while driving through the line.
Box Tops – The next collection date is Wednesday, October 25th. 2-Hour Delay Child Care – Child care is available on days when there is a 2-hour delay at YES for students in kindergarten to sixth grade. No prior sign-up is required. Qualified school personnel will supervise the children. Parents sign their child in and pay $4 in cash upon arrival for each student using the child care. Breakfast is available for $1.50 or students may bring their own breakfast with them. For additional information, visit the YCS website (http://www.yorktown.k12.in.us/). Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file. End of the Day Arrangements – We realize plans sometime change during the day; however, please try to have your child’s end of the day plan in place prior to the start of the school day. If you have a change of plans, do not email the teacher. Teachers do not always have time to check their email and put the plan into place. Please call the office by 1:50pm at 759-2770 with end of the day changes only when necessary. Dismissal Time/Latchkey – YES dismisses at 2:20pm. If you are going to be later than 2:20pm in picking up your child, you will need to send your child to latchkey. YES students ride a bus to PVE, where latchkey is held. Parents pick up their child from PVE. The cost is $3 per child per day if picked up by 4:00pm; $6 per child per day if picked up after 4:00. All children must be picked up from latchkey by 6:00pm.
