New Announcements: Ball State University (BSU) ADHD Exercise Study – BSU is investigating the effects of exercise on cognitive function in children with ADHD. As commonly diagnosed as it is, research suggests exercise may provide benefits similar to those of medication, and we are interested in studying how exactly these benefits manifest, as well as what this might mean for future treatment options for this population. BSU is looking for families who might be interested in participating in this exciting study. Additionally, attached is BSU’s IRB approval document, which states the study has been approved by the university's ethical review committee. Yorktown Connect – Connect is a fun and engaging faith based after school club meeting at Yorktown Elementary School; it is open to ANY 4th & 5th grade student. Please see the attached permission slip for more details. PTO Meeting – The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 2nd from 5:30 to 6:30pm in the Library. Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file. End of the Day Arrangements – We realize plans sometime change during the day; however, please try to have your child’s end of the day plan in place prior to the start of the school day. If you have a change of plans, do not email the teacher. Teachers do not always have time to check their email and put the plan into place. Please call the office by 1:50pm at 759-2770 with end of the day changes only when necessary. Dismissal Time/Latchkey – YES dismisses at 2:20pm. If you are going to be later than 2:20pm in picking up your child, you will need to send your child to latchkey. YES students ride a bus to PVE, where latchkey is held. Parents pick up their child from PVE. The cost is $3 per child per day if picked up by 4:00pm; $6 per child per day if picked up after 4:00. All children must be picked up from latchkey by 6:00pm.
