YOUR MISSION COMPLETED: MAKE IT GRAIN

Vashti Verbowski

Forget what your parents told you at the dinner table, it’s more than acceptable to eat with your hands. And why not? Just look at all the great foods that are best enjoyed sans silverware: sandwiches and wraps, veggies and dip, burgers and fried chicken or finger foods, too. So this week, we want you to put a fork in using cutlery and show us your favourite hand-held foods where no utensils are required.

MISSION INSPIRATION Bonnie Vockeroth @shinytomato Quinoa patties with lemon yogurt sauce

Rebecca Jobse @beccasfoodfest Ruby pomelo, some organic granola and shredded coconut

YOUR NEXT MISSION: EAT WITH YOUR HANDS

While many hand-held foods suggest a convenient meal, there are some that call for more heavy-duty handiwork. Take Gastroposter Terri Brandmueller’s super-sized sandwich, for example. “This muffaletta is definitely a two-hander!” Terri says. A traditional Italian sammy typically filled with mortadella, salami, ham, provolone, mozzarella and marinated olives, we’re not even sure if two hands will get the job done! Emily Caulfield @the_fat_pigs My quinoa pilaf. One of many dishes on our midterm exam

@vashtiverbowski I love the chewy texture and nutty flavour of ancient grains, kamut and spelt.

Tracy Huck @tracyhuck Homemade chia, oat, banana and pecan muffins

Suzanne Bailuk @shoezannie Quinoa with protein powder, chia seeds, almonds and fruit

GASTROPOST IT

Whatever you eat in order to complete the mission, the important part is sharing it with the Gastropost community. There are several ways to do that:

Cindy Greentree Third-time Gastroposter Spanish quinoa salad with lime, cilantro, cumin and olive oil

Vanessa Wang @icebirdloveeat Sesame cookie balls, walnut shortbreads and sesame jelly
