Pray With Confidence By Stephen Harrison Family Church
Do you want to memorize an easy Scripture about prayer? It is 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Never stop praying.” Easy, right? And you thought you couldn’t memorize Scripture. It’s one thing to say never stop praying and another to actually do it. Why would anyone want to pray all the time? After all, couldn’t you just go to God at the moment you have a prayer need? The obvious answer is yes but the fact is you can pray all the time because God is available all the time. He is always listening, always powerful, always near, and always interested. The other neat aspect is He never grows tired of you always praying. So go ahead, talk all you want. Calling out to God is as simple as talking. The confidence of
praying to God is confirmed in Jeremiah 33:3, which says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” He answers you! Have you ever called someone that never answered their phone? How frustrating! But God hears us and answers us. Now, the answer may not be what you expected but be sure He will answer always in agreement with His Scripture and will. But what if you’re not sure what to say? I remember the first time I met Governor Mike Huckabee and Governor Mike Beebe. I rehearsed several things in my mind and out loud in my car on my way to see them both on two separate occasions. I was so nervous. I was worried about mispronouncing something or speaking in incomplete sentences. I didn’t know governor talk. But as soon as I met them
they disarmed every fear and apprehension. They were extremely down to earth, easy to talk to, and genuinely interested in what concerned me. I think sometimes we don’t talk to God because we are scared of Him and unfairly misunderstand His character. God loves us and is most interested in our hearts not our speech. I believe in being reverent and respectful but God answers prayers even if you aren’t kneeling, bowing your head, and closing your eyes. I sometimes hear people pray in a way that is totally opposite of how they usually talk. They become very proper and use fancy words. But if your prayers aren’t structured and your words aren’t eloquent He still hears and understands you. Have you ever called customer support only you couldn’t understand the accent of the person on the other end? This is also very
frustrating. But the God of the Universe not only understands every language, dialect, accent, and slang – He knows everything you are thinking. All we have to do is express what’s on our hearts and He is certain to hear us. God keeps up with all the latest terminology, so don't worry about that. He knows what you are saying. He knows what you are thinking. The main thing is to start praying. Just start where you are and speak to God straight from your heart. Are you discouraged in your prayer life? Remember, “Jesus told his disciples a parable to show that they should always pray and never give up” (Luke 18:1). Pray with confidence. “Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
