Day Trip To Visit Crossnore School and Children’s Home
“The Suitcases”
15th
August Leaving ~9:00am and returning ~6:30pm We are going to tour one of our Methodist affiliated ministries featured in the book “The Suitcases” and see a little of the local scenery in Avery County, NC, Pastor Toni Ruth’s hometown. We’ll get lunch and there will be an opportunity to check out the Sales Store, Weaving Room, Fine Arts Gallery, and Chapel/Frescoes (all that can be seen here: https://www.crossnore.org/eat-shop-explore/). If you would like to go or have questions please contact Pastor Toni Ruth (
[email protected] or 704-455-2311) We need to have a good head count by August 13th.
Pastries with the Pastors Are you new to HUMC and would like to meet our pastors on a more personal level. Join us Sunday, Aug. 13th at 9:45am in the Narthex for a time of fellowship and conversation with Pastor Toni Ruth & Pastor Wes.
Founded in 1913 by Drs. Eustace and Mary Martin Sloop, The Crossnore School, first created as a boarding school for disadvantaged mountain children to live and learn, continues today to serve children in need from North Carolina. Children live, learn, and prosper in a loving home environment.
Mark your calendars, Homecoming is Sunday, September 24th. Pastor Dan Hester will be coming home to deliver the morning message. The traditional Covered Dish Lunch will follow the 11:00 am service. !2

“Fun at VBS”
Pastor Richard’s favorite part of VBS was this cross. Jesus forgives our sins, they wrote sins and placed them on the cross to be forgiven. The papers on the table are the ways the children came up with to be in service for Jesus. We have lots of loving children willing to share tons 0f love with our community! What a joy to be in relationship with the children and to see their hope for the future! CHILDREN’S SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL
NEEDS YOUR HELP!
A Sunday School teacher is still needed for the 1st grade — 4th grade class for Aug 6th, 13th, & 20th. If you are able to help please contact Richard Smith 704-455-2311 and he’ll get the material to you for you to review asap.
Community Dinner Surprise A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped at the Community Dinner July 26th. What a joy to welcome the community to eat and fellowship with us. The big surprise was that the football team from Robinson came to the dinner. What a blessing to have these friendly, polite, and well mannered young men join us. There were 45 to 50 of them. This ministry is truly reaching out. We hope you too will join us next month on August 30 th from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. for spiral cut ham, potatoes, green beans, and dessert. Don’t forget to bring a neighbor. !3
