ponent Saint Joseph’s(Ind.). The Pumas are members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and come off an 8‐3 finish a year ago, marking their second straight eight‐win season. They were picked to finish third in the GLVC. Edinboro seeks an end to a string of three straight losing cam‐ paigns after posting a 3‐8 record in 2014. However, the Fighting Scots enter the season riding a two‐game winning streak after ending the year with wins over Seton Hill and Millersville. It marked the first time Edinboro ended a season with back‐to‐back wins since 2008. The Fighting Scots open a season at home for the first time since 2011. This also marks the third straight year Edinboro has opened the season with a Thursday night game. } The Fighting Scots are looking to snap a string of three straight losing seasons. That marks the first time with three consecutive losing campaigns since a stretch of six straight losing sea‐ sons from 1997‐2002. } This marks the first of three Thursday night contests in 2015, with two of those taking place at Sox Harrison Stadium. In addition to the Saint Joseph’s contest, the Fighting Scots will play on back‐to‐back Thursdays in October. On October 15, Edinboro will play at Gannon. The following week, on October 22, the Fighting Scots host Mercyhurst. Thursday night has not necessarily been a good day to play on for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro has a 1‐4 record on Thursday nights during Scott Browning’s tenure as head coach. } Edinboro is staring at another demanding schedule in 2015. Eight of the 11 teams on the 2015 slate posted winning records, with Slippery Rock and Gannon winning nine games, Saint Joseph’s and California(Pa.) eight games, and Mercyhurst seven. The combined record of the eleven 2015 oppo‐ nents is 65‐56, but the combined records of the eight teams with winning records was 59‐29. } The Fighting Scots will sport a new look this coming season, with a significant change in uni‐

2015 EDINBORO FOOTBALL GAME NOTES forms. For the first time black will be incorpo‐ rated into the uniforms, with the Fighting Scots able to choose from red or black pants, along with red and white jerseys. Edinboro will don red jerseys and black pants for the season opener. } Edinboro will have someone other than a Harris opening the season as the starter at quar‐ terback for the first time since 2005. Trevor Har‐ ris was the starter from 2006‐09, and younger brother Cody took over in 2010 and would be the starter to open the year for the next five years. Jake Sisson, who made one start a year ago as a true freshman, will open the season under center. } While six starters return on offense and six more on defense, youth will once again be served in 2015. The 2015 roster features 38 true freshman and 10 redshirt freshman. Many are expected to see time as head coach Scott Browning and his staff tries to reap the benefits of a strong recruiting class. A year ago a total of 43 games were started by true freshman. } Saint Joseph’s has featured one of the top ground games in the country the last two years. The Pumas ranked 13th in Division II in rushing a year ago with 242.6 ypg. behind Braxton Shel‐ ton. Shelton led the GLVC and ranked 26th in Di‐ vision II in rushing with 1,211 yards. In 2013, Saint Joseph’s averaged 224 ypg. rushing, good for 28th nationally. Shelton has 2,774 career yards rushing with 29 TDs. The defense, meanwhile, was stingy against the rush, allowing just 104.1 ypg. That figure ranked 16th in Division II. } Edinboro was picked to finish seventh in the PSAC West in the coaches’ preseason poll after being picked to finish sixth the previous two years. The Fighting Scots finished in a tie for sixth in 2014. Saint Joseph’s was picked to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll. The Pumas tied for second a year ago.

} The Edinboro‐Saint Joseph’s game can be
heard live on WFSE FM 88.9, with Mike Fenner providing the play‐by‐play and Trevor Trum‐ bauer the commentary. ETV, Edinboro’s stu‐ dent television station, will also televise the contest. In addition, all Edinboro radio broad‐ casts will be aired by the Keystone Sports Net‐ work. The games will be broadcast on ESPN 92.7 FM in Erie and WWCB 1370 AM in Corry, Pa., in ad‐ dition to being streamed live.
Darren Massey, WR Domenic Principale, DE Mike Shansky, LB Joe Sullivan, C reach 50 wins, joining Tom Hollman and Bill Mc‐ Donald. The 2014 win over Clarion was his 55th, moving him into sole possession of second place in career victories. Browning was certainly no stranger to Fighting Scot football when he was hired as head coach, serving as an assistant coach for the previous twenty years. While at Edinboro he has coached the offensive linemen, defensive backs and running backs, along with serving as the offensive coordinator. Browning became the first head coach at Edinboro to debut with a win since McDonald in 1969 when the Fighting Scots opened the 2006 season with a 28‐14 win at West Chester. He went on to lead Edinboro to a 6‐5 finish, the most wins ever by a first‐year coach. That was fol‐ lowed by a 7‐4 finish in 2007. His next two Fighting Scot editions recorded a school‐record tying nine wins. In 2008 Edinboro ended the year at 9‐2 and was ranked 20th in the final AFCA Top 25. The Fighting Scots had a 9‐4 record in 2009, making the NCAA playoffs for the first time in his tenure. Edin‐ boro would end the year 24th in the AFCA poll. The Boro posted back‐to‐back 7‐4 finishes in 2010 and 2011. The 4‐6 finish in 2012 represented Brown‐ ing’s first losing season as head coach. } Daniel Day (Seton Hill ‘09) was appointed the 19th head coach at Saint Joseph’s on December 5, 2014 after spending the previous four sea‐ sons as SJC's offensive line coach. Day’s roots are in the eastern Ohio and western Pennsylva‐ nia. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, he enjoyed a successful playing career at Seton Hill. As the Pumas’ offensive line coach, he helped SJC rank 28th in Division II in 2013 with 224 rushing yards per game. In 2014 the Pumas ranked 13th na‐ tionally with 242.6 yards per game while stand‐ ing 16th in Division II against the run. The offensive line allowed just 15 sacks.
Browning Comments ... on the Fighting Scots “It will be interesting. I think we’ll find out a lot about ourselves. We’re playing a good football team that was 8‐3 a year ago. It will be a big test. I think we’re on track. It’s time to play a game.”

They’re very aggressive on both sides of the football. They’re well‐coached and have some very strong running backs. Their secondary is very ath‐ letic. Their kicking game is more than solid. A year ago, the Scots dropped a 38‐24 de‐ cision at Carson‐Newman.
Edinboro in Home Openers The Fighting Scots have a 4‐5 record in home openers under head coach Scott Browning fol‐ lowing last year’s loss to East Stroudsburg. Ed‐ inboro has not opened a season at Sox Harrison Stadium since 2011.

He has served as an assistant at Edinboro since 1998 and is currently in charge of the Fighting Scot running backs. Prior to joining the Edinboro staff, Henson enjoyed an incredible run as the head coach at Grand Valley Academy. Over his 22 years at the helm, Henson's Mustangs posted a 150‐68‐4 record, with five Grand River Conference champi‐ onships, three East Suburban Conference titles, and three state playoff appearances. Wanson will serve as the quarterbacks and re‐ ceivers coach. Corey joins the staff as a part‐time coach working with the offensive line and tight ends. Wanson played quarterback for the Fight‐ ing Scots from 2005‐09. A former standout at DuBois High School, he had the misfortune of playing behind record‐setting quarterback Trevor Harris. However, he enjoyed a moment of glory when he made his lone career start in the 2009 regular season finale at Millersville and paced the Fighting Scots to a 28‐25 win that clinched a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Wanson was named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts, completing 17 of 33 passes for 231 yards and 3 TDs. For his career, he saw ac‐ tion in 23 games, completing 48 of 102 passes for 580 yards with 5 TDs. After receiving his bache‐ lor's degree in Secondary Education‐Social Stud‐ ies in May 2009, Wanson began his coaching career as an assistant coach at McDowell High School in 2010. He served as the offensive coordi‐ nator a year ago for a McDowell team which fin‐ ished 8‐5 and reached the PIAA playoffs. He previously served as a coach of the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs, along with being the head coach of the junior varsity pro‐ gram. McDowell posted a winning record in each of Wanson's five seasons, including reaching the Quad A state quarterfinals in 2012 and '13. The 2010 and '11 editions participated in the WPIAL playoffs, finishing with 7‐3 and 8‐3 records, re‐ spectively. Corey was an offensive lineman with the Fighting Scots from 2008‐12. The Fighting Scots’ uniforms have been redesigned, featuring black along with the traditional red and white. Black trim will accent the jerseys, and the Fighting Scots can now wear black pants. The helmet has also undergone a slight change after a major revision a year ago, with black bordering the lettering, and black stripes.

What, No Harris at the Helm?! In 2006, Trevor Harris took over as Edinboro’s starting quarterback as a redshirt freshman. Since that time, either Trevor or younger brother Cody Harris has been the starting quarterback to open the season, until 2015. Trevor was a four‐year starter, wrapping up his career in 2009. Cody took over as a redshirt freshman in 2010, and actually started the opener for five straight seasons. He earned an extra year of eligibility after missing all but the first two games of the 2013 season due to an injury. Oddly enough, the Edinboro roster will not be without a relation to the Harris’ this year. Ryan Maniaci, a cousin, is a freshman quarterback from Marion Pleasant High School, the same high school that produced Trevor and Cody Harris. Demanding Schedule Awaits Scots in 2015 Edinboro faces a demanding schedule in 2015 that is highlighted by three games on Thursday nights. Edinboro opens the season with a 6 p.m. tilt against first‐time opponent Saint Joseph’s(Ind.) on Thursday, September 3. In October, the Fight‐ ing Scots face back‐to‐back Thursday dates against local rivals Gannon and Mercyhurst. The Scots play at Gannon on October 15, then host Mercyhurst on October 22. All told, eight of the 11 teams on the 2015 slate posted winning records, with Slippery Rock and Gannon winning nine games, Saint Joseph’s and California(Pa.) eight games, and Mercyhurst seven. Saint Joseph’s was picked third in the Great Lakes Valley Confer‐ ence’s preseason poll. The combined record of the eleven 2015 opponents is 65‐56, but the com‐ bined records of the eight teams with winning records was 59‐29.

} Fighting Scots Look to Change Fortunes on Thursday Nights
When head coach Scott Browning an‐ nounced the 2015 schedule earlier this year, he noted that even his wife won‐ dered why he schedules games on Thurs‐ day since he fails to win in the weeknight games. Edinboro will play three times on Thursday night in 2015, including two con‐ tests at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fight‐ ing Scots open the season with a Thursday night affair hosting Saint Joseph(Ind.) on September 3. They then play on back‐to‐ back Thursdays against local rivals Gannon and Mercyhurst. On October 15, Edinboro will play at Gannon. A week later on Octo‐ ber 22 they host Mercyhurst. All three Thursday night games kick off at 6:00 p.m. A year ago, Edinboro also played three Thursday night contests, losing all three. For the record, Edinboro owns a 1‐4 record on Thursday nights since Browning took over in 2006. The Fighting Scots have not won on Thursday night since September 5, 2013, a 36‐35 win at Walsh in the season opener. 10/23/2008 9/5/2013 9/4/2014 10/16/2014 10/23/2014

This year those broadcasts will be carried as part of the Keystone Sports Network, which in‐ cludes WWCB 1370 AM (Corry) and ESPN 102.7 FM (Erie). The games can also be heard online at www.boroonline.com (WFSE), plus www.key‐ stonesports.net/listenlive and www.wwcbradio.com/listenlive. Games will be on demand with the tune in mobile app/key‐ stonesports or wwcbradio. The Keystone Sports Network... On The Air... Online and On Demand!
Girvin Returns ... as Tight End In 2013 Jon Girvin stepped in to replace an injured Cody Harris at quarterback after Harris went down with a season‐ending injury. Just a redshirt freshman, Girvin would start the final eight games of the season. He completed 119 of 280 passes for 1,448 yards with 7 TDs and 7 INTs, adding 5 TDs rushing. Girvin would not play in 2014, but he re‐ turns this year. However, the talented redshirt
2015 EDINBORO FOOTBALL GAME NOTES sophomore, who was also a basketball standout in high school, will not play quarterback in 2015. Instead, he will line up as a tight end, backing up starter Nick Helmick.
Principale Specializes in Sacks, Fumbles Defensive end Domenic Principale ranked among the PSAC leaders in sacks in 2014 despite missing the final two games with an injury. The redshirt senior ended the year with a team‐high 7 sacks, and he forced a team‐high 4 fumbles. He ranked first in the PSAC in fumbles forced and was eighth in sacks, along with fourth and 35th in Division II, respectively. He had one sack in each of the first six games. Principale enters his final season with 10 career sacks.
Bridging the Gap An offensive line that struggled in 2014 returns four starters. However, it is the newcomer to the group who is expected to make a huge difference in 2015. Tavious Bridges transferred from Pikeville College, an NAIA institution, this summer after playing two seasons for the Bears. A 6’2”, 287 lb. junior, he earned second team All‐Mid‐South Con‐ ference honors a year ago while starting seven games. In fact, Bridges was a 2015 NAIA presea‐ son All‐American.
} Potts Ranks Among PSAC Leaders in Career Starts
Offensive lineman Jacob Potts enters the season with 31 career starts. That figure ranks fifth among PSAC players. The red‐ shirt senior has started 27 games in a row. He is slated to start at right tackle this year. A year ago the Maplewood High School product started the first six games at right tackle and the final five contests at left tackle. During his career, he has started 19 games at right guard, seven games at right tackle, and five games at left tackle. Tillman previously served in the Army.
Schmidt’s Dad Also a Former Scot Tillman isn’t the only player on the 2015 team with a father who played at Edinboro. Freshman Josh Schmidt’s father Don played football at Edinboro in the mid‐1990’s, and was a member of the PSAC‐champion 1995 team.

He ranked third in the PSAC and fifth in Division II in blocked kicks. His four blocks is tied for the second‐highest total in a season at Edin‐ boro. Branden Williams blocked five kicks in 2012.
Helmick Comes Up Big on Opening Days Nick Helmick has scored three career touchdowns, and all have come in opening games. The sopho‐ more tight end scored his first career touchdown at Walsh a year ago. This year he opened the sea‐ son with a pair of touchdown receptions on catches of five and 17 yards.
