GAME NOTES Going Streaking: With the win over Thiel to open PAC-play last week, Saint Vincent achieved a series of firsts in modern program history. It was the first time the Bearcats won back-to-back games since 1961 (Carnegie Tech, 20-12; Geneva, 13-7), as well as the first time SVC topped the same opponent in consecutive seasons since Carnegie Tech in the 1960s. The win also marked the first time the Bearcats have had a winning record at any point in a season since 1961. Red Zone = End Zone: Saint Vincent enters this weekend tied for first in the nation in Red Zone Efficiency. In three games, the Bearcats have converted all 12 of their trips inside their opponents’ 20-yard line into points (six passing touchdowns, five rushing touchdowns, one field goal). Only three teams in the nation (Centre (Ky.), Alfred (N.Y.) and Trinity (Texas)) have converted 100 percent of more attempts. “Aaron” it Out: Senior quarterback Aaron Smetanka ranks 14th in the nation in passing efficiency with a 173.72 rating, which leads the PAC. Smetanka also ranks second in the conference with 240.3 passing yards per game. Records are made to be Broken: Smetanka is already the school’s all-time leader in passing yards (2,687) and total offense (2,801 yards) in a career. His 284 yards passing against Thiel rank fifth in single-season modern history, and the 6-4 senior holds four of the top five singlegame passing marks in school history. First 100 is the Hardest: For the first time in his career, junior wide receiver Ricky Douglas eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark against Thiel. The 6-1 receiver caught five passes for 118 yards, including a team season-high 58yard reception. The Finleyville, Pa., native currently leads the Bearcats with 270 yards receiving (18.0 yards per catch) and ranks second in the conference in receiving yards per game. Douglas has recorded the most yards in each of SVC’s three games this season and he now ranks fourth all-time with 528 career receiving yards.

2

Twice as Nice: Last week, sophomore running back Huey Ehredt and junior wide receiver Christian Sutton became the first players to record a rushing touchdown and receiving touchdown in the same game since senior wide receiver Jairus Marlow accomplished the feat against McDaniel in 2009. Mr. 3,000: With his 71-yard kickoff return against Thiel, senior defensive back Zach Mihalko became the first player in program history to eclipse 3,000 career all-purpose yards. Mihalko, who made the transition to defensive back from running back in the offseason, has accumulated 590 rushing yards, 223 receiving yards and 2,201 kick-off return yards in his four years. Against the Tomcats, Mihalko also recorded his 100th-career kickoff return. 1,000 Milestone: Senior running back Mike Kale gained 37 yards rushing against Thiel to become the first player in modern history to rush for 1,000 yards in a career. His career total now sits at 1,032 yards. Two-Pronged Attack: Ehredt and Kale rank third and fourth in rushing in the PAC with averages of 66.7 and 62.0 yards per game, respectively. Bearcats of the Week: Senior linebacker Anthony Johnson was named PAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting 10 tackles (eight solo), 3.5 tackles for loss and three pass break-ups in the win over Thiel. Out of SVC’s last seven games, the Bearcats have had six players earn PAC Player of the Week.
