Place the compost blocks in the pot in an empty sink. Add water and watch the blocks grow like magic. Level the compost. Gently rub off the papery coat that covers the skin and ask an adult to gently prick the seed skin with a pin to help moisture penetrate. Push two seeds into the surface (you can use your other seeds in further pots or trays).
grow your own touch sensitive plants
Place on a warm windowsill but not direct sunshine (18°C - 65°F). Keep moist and if two little plants appear, carefully remove one and plant it in a similar size pot. Grow on to an adult plant on the windowsill. When your plant grows larger, you may have to move it to a larger pot. As the plants grow, you will find that touching the leaves with a pencil will cause them to curl. After a while they will return to normal. Did you know that my leaves also close up at night - perhaps if you turn out the light you might catch them! what your child can learn - Your child will learn elements of the National Curriculum including seed germination and plant growth.
