The Town of Lantana introduces a community friendly adopt & paint a hydrant program. Get creative while helping to beautify our Town! Utilizing the guidelines provided, artists that adopt a hydrant will paint and maintain the aesthetics of their fire hydrant. Visit www.lantana.org for more information.

Town of Lantana Adopt a Hydrant Application

TOWN OF LANTANA ADOPT-A-HYDRANT The Town of Lantana introduces a community friendly adopt and paint a hydrant program. The benefit of the program is the beautification of the hydrants themselves and the surrounding area. The Town has numerous hydrants throughout the town that are available to be painted on. Utilizing the guidelines provided, artists that adopt a hydrant will paint and maintain the aesthetics of their fire hydrant. However, participants must provide their own supplies. Interested artists can contact Nicole Dritz at 561-540-5016 or email [email protected] to reserve their hydrant or answer any questions. Program details and a waiver can be found at the bottom of this page. Town of Lantana Fire Hydrant Painting Rules •

Paintings cannot prevent the functional use of the fire hydrant. The three openings and the top turning knob must all function and paint cannot seep into it to prevent operation.



Paintings cannot reduce the hydrant’s visibility o Cannot be painted all black, all white, dark camouflage green or use patterns and designs that reduces the hydrant’s visibility o Cannot be the same color as the vegetation or items surrounding it o Black paint cannot cover more than 20% of the overall fire hydrant



Use bright colors of red, orange, blue, green, yellow, purple, black and white.



Design should be appropriate for public places.



Paintings cannot endorse an individual or business; paintings cannot be offensive in any way. No inappropriate words, advertisements, political messages etc. However the artist can use a 3x3 area on the hydrant for signing the hydrant.



No glued or attached objects.



Safety cones and safety vests are required to be used when painting.



Artists under the age of 18 must have adult supervision while painting.



Use ONLY paint with oil-based enamel paints for metal. “Industrial” enamel paints for metal can be found locally at Sherwin Williams. Suggested brand names are Coronado Rust Scat Enamel 31 Line or Sherwin Williams All Surface Enamel Oil Base paint. Using this type of paint will keep your creation in good shape for years to come. 1|Page

The threads cannot to be painted. Painting the threads is akin to painting your window shut. Additionally, if a hydrant is used, designs may no longer line up as artist intended before cap was removed for emergency.



The public and private space immediately around the fire hydrant should be kept clean and neat when not directly working on the fire hydrant. Please respect the property.

If rules are not followed your hydrant will be painted over. Fire hydrants that fall into a state that no longer enhance the immediate area will be painted over. For example, a hydrant that begins to peel or otherwise deteriorate. By participating in the Fire Hydrant Design Contest you acknowledge that The Town of Lantana and its affiliates are not responsible in any way for any injury or property damage directly or indirectly associated with this contest. By signing this waiver you are agreeing to all rules, guidelines and criteria associated with this contest.
