Please note that this open evening does not operate an appointment system. We look forward to seeing you all there. Get Active Challenge Well done to all pupils who completed an extra 30 minutes of exercise throughout June. I was really impressed how many children completed it and the range of activities they do outside school. All winners received a swingball games set. The winners are:- Christopher Oliver (Y3), Ruby McEneany (Y4), Danny Pease (Y5) and Diana Borovikova (Y6) Cricket Last Friday, we took a team to the Kwik Cricket Tournament at Attenborough Cricket Club. Year 5 finished second and the Year 6’s finished fourth. Both teams played their games in great spirit and some of our Year 6 team even decided they quite liked cricket. Well done to all the children for their great efforts but also showing good resilience when results did not always go their way. Mr Robertson and Mr Tivey. Y5 Bramcote Taster Day On Wednesday, both year 5 classes walked up to The Bramcote School to be involved in a taster day. The children were excited about their visit and enjoyed some fantastic activities to get a taste of the secondary school day and a small amount of the subjects that are taught there, Overall, the children were fantastically well behaved and Mr Tivey and Mrs Wright were extremely proud in the way that the children conducted themselves, setting an example to their peers and to Albany Junior School. Cheerleading Sixteen of our cheerleaders went to the East Midlands Cheerleading Academy training hall to compete against other schools in Nottinghamshire. They worked really hard and came second. Well done everyone and thank you to parents for your support. Miss Richards Book Drive A huge thank you to those who donated. Good to be Green Despite my best efforts, the Skytrail reward planned for the end of Summer Term will not take place. This is due to logistics and their lack of availability. However, I have managed to secure a 2 hour slot at Roller World, Derby on the afternoon of Tuesday 19th July. Further details will be sent to you if your child has demonstrated 'green behaviour' throughout the Summer term. A visit will also take place to the park for those pupils who have made better choices with their behaviour and displayed 'green behaviour' this half term. Thank you for your continued support, Miss Gibson Summer Fayre The Friends of Albany Junior School are busy planning for our annual summer fayre, which will take place on the afternoon of Friday 15th July. If you would like a stall, are free to run a stall for school or simply wish to support the event by attending, we look forward to seeing you there. Parent Forum Meeting We will be holding a Parent Forum meeting on 8 th July at 9.30am, please come along. This date has changed due to other commitments. Attendance: Great News! - East Midlands Airport is committed to supporting education in the local community. We believe that one of the crucial ways of ensuring a great education for every child is improving and retaining high attendance figures. The East Midlands Airport attendance scheme praises and rewards good attendance. Pupils build up a series of certificates and rewards for each half term of full attendance which are given out by airport staff. In addition, those pupils who achieve 100% attendance throughout the whole academic year will be invited to a special reward celebration/party at the airport where they will have party food and gifts. This will recognise and celebrate their achievement. This scheme is being offered to Albany Junior School by East Midlands Airport free of charge for a three year period. I hope to send as many pupils as possible to East Midlands Airport at the end of next year! Mrs Goffin We've reached GOLD!! I am very pleased to announce that Albany Junior School has just applied for and received a GOLD for the Sainsbury's School Games Award. Thank you for continuing to support our lunchtime and after school clubs in school. Thanks Miss Richards. Year 3 Roald Dahl Week This year Roald Dahl would have been 100 years old! Therefore, year 3 will be holding a Roald Dahl week to celebrate his life. During our Topic this term, we have read and studied Charlie and the Chocolate factory and the children have loved it and so as part of our Roald Dahl week we shall be looking at his other work. We will be watching various Roald Dahl books transformed into film (The BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox and Matilda). This will allow the children to discuss the differences and how his story writing was inspirational enough to be developed into film. We will be taking part in Roald Dahl inspired dance workshops based around Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We will have illustration workshops based around Quentin Blake’s work with Roald Dahl and there will also be a celebratory birthday picnic with lots of cake! The children will be allowed to dress as their favourite Roald Dahl character for £1 donation to help with paying for the picnic. The children are all VERY excited about the week as are Mrs G and Miss Richards. Roald Dahl week will be week beginning 11th July. The films mentioned above are PG certificate so if you would like to opt your child out of the viewing please see the office and they will create a list. This will be a fun filled week of Roald Dahl activities and we hope you can support us in delivering this. Spelling Bee Please continue to help your child to learn their spellings for the Spelling Bee competition at the end of Summer 2. Thank you Mrs Goffin
