Arizona Star Quilt Block Made up of 4 different fabrics Sizes for 6 inch, (9 inch and 12 inch) blocks Cut 1 square 2 inches (2 5/8, 3 3/8 inches), this square will sit in the quilt block on diagonal so if it has a directional design, take that into consideration, 4 squares 1½ inches (2, 2 ½ inches), 8 squares 2 ½ inches (3, 3 ½ inches) and 4 rectangles 2 ½ inches by 1½ inches (3 1/2 X 2, 4 ½ X 2 ½ inches ) from fabric 1. Cut Fabric 2 into 2 squares, 2 ¾ inches (3 3/8, 4 1/8 inches) and 4 squares 2 ½ inches (3, 3 ½ inches). Cut the 2 squares 2 ¾ inches diagonally once resulting in 4 triangles. Align the triangles along the edges of the 2 inch square of fabric 1.
Working opposite sides, sew fabric 2 triangles to fabric 1 square. Press seams open. Set aside as center block. Place fabric 1 and fabric 2 2 ½ inch squares right sides together and mark along one diagonal. Sew one seam along each side, ¼ inch from of the marking. Cut along the marking and press resulting square open toward the darker fabric. Trim half square triangles to squares measuring 1 ½ inches (2, 2 ½ inches). Cut 8 squares 1 ½ inches (2, 2 ½ inches) and 4 rectangles 2 ½ X 1 ½ inches (3 ½ X 2, 4 ½ X 2 ½ inches) from fabric 3. Sew 8 Flying Geese blocks, 4 with Fabric 1 in the geese position and 4 with Fabric 3 in the geese position. Take one 1 ½ X 2 ½ inch rectangle from fabric one and one 1 ½ inch square from fabric 3. Lay the square lined up with one end of the rectangle right sides together. Sew a diagonal from top center to lower outer edge. Trim corner triangle and iron open. Lay second 1 ½ inch lined up with the other end of the rectangle. The squares should be overlapping. Sew diagonal from upper center
corner to outer edge corner. Trim resulting triangle and iron open. This is one Flying Geese Block. Complete other 7 Flying Geese.
Separate the Flying Geese into 4 sets of two blocks, one of each of the different Flying Geese centers. Lay them so that the fabric 3 geese are on the top and sew the two blocks together.
Set the 4 Flying Geese blocks aside with the Center block. Cut 4 squares 1½ inches (2, 2 ½ inches) from fabric 4. Gather the 1 ½ inch squares of Fabric 1 and the 1 ½ inch squares from fabric 1 and the 8 half square triangles. Arrange the four parts of the corner unit so that the half square triangles are in the upper right corner and lower left corner, fabric 1 is in the upper left corner and fabric 4 is in the lower right. Sew the upper two blocks together and the same with the lower two. Iron the seams toward the plain fabric sides and then sew the upper combination to the lower combinations.
Press seams.
Arrange the 9 blocks with the center square in square in the center. The Flying Geese combinations with the geese pointing toward the center block and the half square triangle units in the corners with the fabric 1 in the outer most corners of the block.
Sew the top 3 blocks together, the middle 3 blocks together and the bottom 3 blocks together. Press the seams open and then sew the 3 rows together. Press seams and you have the Arizona Star Quilt Block.

corner to outer edge corner. Trim resulting triangle and iron open. This is one Flying Geese Block. Complete other 7 Flying Geese.
