From C1578 Charcoal: • Cut two 67⁄8" x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into eight 67⁄8" squares. Cut each square twice diagonally to create thirty-two QST. • Cut five 21⁄2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into forty 21⁄2" x 41⁄2" rectangles. From C1578 Mist: • Cut three 27⁄8" x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into thirty-six 27⁄8" squares. • Cut five 21⁄2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into seventy-two 21⁄2" squares. From C1574 Noir: • Fussy-cut eight 61⁄8" squares centering the square on a large flower.

sew Block Construction apart 1/4" Block A Pinwheels 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the thirty-six C1578 Mist 27⁄8" fig. 1 squares. Place a C1578 Mist 27⁄8" square right sides together on a C9497 Noir 27⁄8" square. Sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line and press the seams toward the dark fabric. Make seventy-two halfsquare triangles (HST). (figure 1) 2. Sew four HST together to create a pinwheel. Press the seams clockwise. Make fig. 2 eighteen. (figure 2) Flying Geese 3. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of thirty-six C9995 Cream 21⁄2" squares and thirty-six C1578 Mist 21⁄2" squares. 4. Place one C9995 Cream 21⁄2" square on the left end of a C1577 Ink 21⁄2" trim x 41⁄2" rectangle. sew Sew along the drawn line and trim the seams fig. 3 to 1/4". Press the seams toward the Cream. Press seams toward the Mist. (figure 4) 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the thirty-six C9995 Cream 21⁄2" squares and thirty-six C1578 Mist 21⁄2" squares on the C1578 Charcoal 21⁄2" x 41⁄2" rectangles. Half-square Triangles 7. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the thirty-six C9995 Cream 2 7⁄ 8" squares. Place a C9995 Cream square right sides together on a C1577 Steel 27⁄8" square. Sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line and press seams toward the dark fabric. Make seventy-two HST. 8. Arrange two C1578 Charcoal Flying Geese units, two C1577 Ink Flying Geese units, one Pinwheel unit and four Steel/Cream HST units as illustrated. Sew the blocks together in each row pressing in the direction of the arrows. Sew the rows together
to complete Block A. Press in the direction of the arrows. (figure 5)

B Blocks (B1) 9. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the sixtyeight C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" squares. Set thirty-six aside for block B2. 10. Place one C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" square on the corner of fig. 5 a C1578 Charcoal 67⁄8" QST. Sew along the drawn line and trim sew seams to 1/4". Press seams toward the dark fabric. Make thirty-two. (figure 6) 11. Sew the corner triangle units to each side of the C1574 Noir 61⁄8" squares. Press seams toward the Charcoal. (figure 7) Make eight. B Blocks (B2) 12. Repeat step 10 with the remaining C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" squares and the C1577 Ink 67⁄8" QST. Press seams toward the dark fabric. Make thirty-six. 13. Repeat step 11 with the C1575 Ecru 61⁄8" squares. Press fig. 7 seams toward the dark fabric. Make nine.
Quilt Top Assembly 14. Refer to the quilt photo and the Quilt Layout Diagram to lay out Blocks A, B1, and B2 in seven rows of five blocks across. Sew the blocks together into rows pressing toward the B blocks. Sew the rows together to make the quilt top center. Borders 15. Draw a diagonal line on the back of the twenty C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" squares. Set eight squares aside. Following instructions for the Flying Geese units (steps 4 and 5), sew an Ivory 21⁄2" square to each end of a C1577 Ink 21⁄2" x 41⁄2" rectangle. Press seams toward the Ivory fabric. Make six. 16. For side borders, sew together one C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" x 101⁄2" rectangle, alternating with three Ink Flying Geese units, two C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" x 121⁄2" rectangles and a C9497 Ivory 2 1⁄ 2 " x 10 1⁄ 2 " rectangle. Press seams towards the Ivory fig. 8 rectangles. Make two (figure 8) 17. Match the Flying Geese units to the block B2 edges, lining up the edges of the Ink triangle to the Ink edges on block B2. Sew to the quilt top sides. Press to border unit. 18. Following steps 4 and 5, sew an Ivory 21⁄2" square to each end of a C1578 Charcoal 21⁄2" x 41⁄2" rectangle to make Flying
Geese units. Make four. 19. For the top and bottom borders, sew together three C9497 Ivory 21⁄2" x 121⁄2" and two C1578 Charcoal Flying Geese units, starting and ending with an Ivory rectangle. Press seams toward the rectangles. Make two. (figure 9) fig. 9
20. Match the Flying Geese units to the block B1 edges, lining up the edges of the Charcoal triangles to the Charcoal edges on block B1. Sew to the quilt top and bottom. Press seams toward the borders. 21. Sew the six C9439 Charcoal 2" strips end to end with straight seams. 22. Measure through the vertical center (top to bottom) of the quilt and cut two strips to this length. Matching centers and ends, pin and sew the borders to the quilt top sides. Press seams toward the border. 23. Measure through the horizontal center (side to side) of the quilt and cut the remaining C9439 Charcoal 2" strip to two strips this width. Matching centers and sides, pin and sew the strips to the quilt top and bottom. 24. Sew the seven C1575 Noir 51⁄2"strips together with diagonal seams. Repeat steps 22 and 23. Finishing 25. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. 26. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners. 27. Fold the binding to the quilt underside and hand-stitch the folded edge to the quilt back.
