Children’s Ministry This Month’s Spotlight Julia Buehl My first memory of our first visit to Upland Bible Church was meeting this very pregnant woman who immediately turned around with a welcoming hand and said, “Hi, my name is Judi Astadurian!” Who knew after that early spring day in 1991 that I would be working alongside her in Children’s Ministry today. It wasn’t until after our first child was born in August of 1993 that we started regularly attending the newly merged Foothill Bible Church. This summer my husband Scott and I will be celebrating 30 years of marriage. We have two children, Hannah (22) and Blake (20). Hannah is a junior at Cal Poly Pomona and Blake is at Mt. San Antonio College studying architecture. Being used by God to serve is humbling and rewarding. I have served in the nursery for several years, as an AWANA leader and director for ten years, a 3rd grade Sunday school teacher,
Kids for Christ leader, ONE28 leader for five years, and now the 5th and 6th grade Training Hour teacher for the past two and a half years. As you can see, I LOVE working with children. Jesus tells us that unless we turn and become like children, we will never enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3). That simple childlike faith is what draws me to teaching the children. I love teaching the truths of the Bible by asking questions and letting the students find the answers. This encourages these young people to see that God’s word has the answers to their questions if we just seek Him and look into His perfect law. It is truly a blessing to be able to give back to the young families what has been given to my family as we raised our children in this church that upholds the infallibility of the Scriptures and calls us to repent of our sins, acknowledging that Jesus died in our place on the cross, and making Him Lord of our life.

Book Review By Chloe Mikat, age 10 I read the book Clara Barton – Courage Under Fire by Janet and Geoff Benge. When Clara was a child, her family attended a barn raising. Her brother climbed high to attach the rafters and fell. He was bedridden for two years during which time Clara helped

him.
This
experience helped her to know that she wanted to help people all her life. When she grew up, she started the American Red Cross to help everyone who was in need. I really enjoyed this book and was encouraged to learn about how Clara risked her life to save the wounded soldiers during
