Christianity and Buddhism Christianity Christians believe in the Holy Trinity which is the Triune God : Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There is only one true God.

All have sinned and because of this are separated from God. Salvation is through faith and the saving actions of Christ.

Buddhism Who is worshipped

Scriptures

Prayers, sacraments, worshipping in Church, reading the Bible. Worship should be a continual process, not just in church.

Acts of Worship

The main symbol is the cross that Jesus died on for the salvation of all humankind and various symbols of the Triune God. There are also other symbols which relate to the festivals of Easter and Christmas.

The 10 Commandments 1. You must not have any other god but me. 2. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 3. You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. 4. Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 5. Honour your father and mother. 6. You must not murder. 7. You must not commit adultery. 8. You must not steal. 9. You must not testify falsely against your neighbour. 10. You must not covet.

The sacred book of Buddhism is called the Tripitaka. It is written in an ancient Indian language called Pali. Buddhist worship is called puja and is done at home at their own shrine or a temple. They sit on the floor barefoot facing an image of Buddha and chant to show their love for him. It is very important that their feet face away from the image of Buddha. The main images of Buddhism are the wheel of life, the lotus flower and 32 various images and statues of Buddha.

Reincarnation is the idea that one must go through many cycles of birth, living, and death. After many cycles, and releasing their attachment to desire and the self, they can reach Nirvana - a state of liberation and freedom from suffering. 5 moral teachings are rules to live by. 1. Do not take the life of anything living. 2. Do not take anything not freely given. 3. Abstain from sexual misconduct and sensual overindulgence. 4. Refrain from untrue speech. 5. Do not consume alcohol or other drugs.
