Paeroa College “Excellence in Everything” College Comment Monday 8th December 2014 As the year draws to a close I would like to put on record my thanks to all of the community for the support that the College has had over the last 12 months. It has been a challenging year in many ways for the staff and board of the school and we couldn't have done it without such an awesome community. We are offering some farewells to some of our staff this year and I wish them all the success in the world. Mr Wallis and Mr Wynne are both leaving to pursue studying opportunities. Mr Wynne has contributed a great deal over his time at the College and in addition to his skilled technology teaching I know we will miss his leadership of soccer in the school. Mr Wallis is a great teacher and has brought a huge amount to the English team. He is a team player with particular skills in raising literacy standards and will be missed! Mr Goundar has achieved a promotion to Head of Technology at Melville College. He is a dedicated member of staff who has achieved great results with the students, not least when he is putting in the extra hours in the weekends and holidays! Mr Clark, our Physics teacher is also heading for pastures new with a senior role with the PPTA. Mr Clark is a fantastic teacher and I have appreciated his experience and knowledge in the six months that he has been at the College. Ms Palmer and Ms Walker (jnr) are both leaving us from their part time positions to have babies. Thanks to them for their hard work! Finally, Mrs Troughton the Science Technician is also leaving the school at the end of the year. The Science dept. have been reliant on her organised unflustered approach to prep and we thank her for all of her hard work. In the reverse direction I welcome back Ms Youngman who will be returning to school next year in a job share with Mrs Anderson. We are delighted that both of them will be on our staff. I would like to add a personal note of gratitude myself. I thank all of the staff and board for their support as we go through a change process. We have some exciting plans for the future and their willingness to embrace some of the opportunities that are presented is energising. Watch this space. While some things change, some things stay the same however and I would like to thank in particular the local legend that is Mr Coe. Mr Coe spent six months as Acting Principal this year and did a fine job. As I have adjusted to Paeroa College I have always felt his support and I thank him personally! Next year: we start on the Friday 30th January at 8.50, with a whole school powhiri for our new Year 9s. Course selection day is 29th January for Years 11, 12 and 13 who will need to report in at 11.00. Stay safe, have a great break and if you see me in Paeroa don't hesitate to say hello! Top of the agenda for our last meeting of the year was fine tuning the Vision Statement and Strategic Intentions for the 2015 Paeroa College Charter. Much of the nuts and bolts of this had already been done earlier this year in the consultations with all sectors of our school community. It was wonderful to be able to put these into a document that will reflect who we are and what we strive for in the education of our students, and that is....Excellence! The 2015 budget is also being finalised. The school year is still busy with camps, Junior Prize-giving, professional development and preparations for 2015. A big thank you to our Principal and to all staff for their hard work this year. We look forward to working with you again in 2015. Have a safe and happy Christmas break. Next BOT meeting is Monday February 16th, 2015 at 7pm in the Seminar Room. All are welcome.
