Paeroa College “Excellence in Everything” College Comment Thursday 23rd July 2015 Before I look forward this term I will look back and congratulate the Formal Ball committee and Mr. Van de Wetering on setting up, decorating and arranging what was a very successful ball. The hall looked fantastic and we are delighted with the organisation of the ball. The students worked very hard and Mr. V certainly put the miles in supporting them. Term 3 has come around already and despite the cold weather the College is heating up with some pretty busy days ahead. First order of business is the fact that for our Senior students, this is the last full term to work on their internal credits as Term 4 will include the external exams. Our senior students and their families need to be clear about targets and progress and in addition to the reports sent home at the end of last term, we have our second HSP approaching on Monday 10 th August (Week 4). All senior students’ parents will be invited to a specific appointment to have a look at progress and set some goals with their children. We really value this opportunity to catch up and look forward to welcoming you in. In addition, for our Year 11 and 12 students we will be arranging the course booklet for next year’s courses to be distributed by the start of week 3. This will mean that prior to the HSP you will have a chance to see the courses that are available and bring some questions to the HSP. Throughout the day our careers adviser Denise Grimmer will be available, along with Deans, to discuss anything that you need. Whilst we continue to offer a wide variety of courses you will see some changes in terms of the ‘packages’ that we suggest to different students to try and support them to have a coherent course. The Education Review Office (ERO) is also coming in this year for a review of the school, towards the end of term. In the meantime, ERO are visiting on Friday July 31st at 3.15p.m. in the staffroom. If you are interested in finding out what they will be doing and how they shape their review, you will be very welcome to attend. All of our students have some of the traditional Term 3 things to look forward to: the conclusion of Winter sports and in some cases tournament week, Fiesta week and all of the activities that entails and (obviously) engaging in their learning. Let’s keep them positive and keen over the next ten weeks! Nga mihi Doug Black

BOT News
Rugby
School policies-In consultation with the school community we have a new Charter that describes where Paeroa College is now and where we are heading. Alongside this the Board is currently working on updating the governance framework that aligns with the Charter values. This governance framework is made up of policies that state how the Board will operate, and create the basis for monitoring and evaluating performance within the school. Term 3- an outline was given of upcoming activities and deadlines for students making this a very important, hardworking term for students and teachers. Open evening for prospective students will be held on Thursday July 30th. This is a great opportunity to promote our school as the college of choice for Paeroa children. The Education Review Office (ERO) is soon to visit our school as part of their review of all schools. These regular reviews focus on student achievement and welfare. ERO reports can be found on their website: www.ero.govt.nz Our next BOT meeting is Monday 10 August at 6.30pm in the Seminar Room. NOTE CHANGE IN DATE AND TIME. All are welcome.
Development Rugby: Before the holidays we had a very tight home game against Thames, finishing with six tries each. Thames just claiming victory by conversions. (They scored most of their tries under the posts!) Hopefully the school break has given the boys a chance to rest and a few injuries time to heal. This Saturday we have our last game of this round vs Mercury Bay at Mercury Bay at 11am. The following weekend 1st August, will be “playoffs”, where the lowest two teams will be eliminated. (We are currently sitting in 2nd place, two points behind Thames.) Sat 8th August is the semi-finals, 1 vs 4 & 2 vs 3. Sat 15th August is finals day at Paeroa Domain. Well done to all the boys so far this season, we are more than capable of winning the cup this year! Just please keep up your good behaviour and attendance…. we need you all!!
