CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY SURVEY Business confidence increases in March The Construction Business Confidence Index (ICEIConstruction) increased by 0.7 points between February and March, hitting the mark of 57.0 points.
The indicators measuring activity levels and number of employees showed a slowdown in the pace of decline of activity and employment.
Among the components making up the ICEIConstruction, special mention should be made of the Current Conditions Indicator, which stood above the 50-point dividing line for the first time since February 2013, signaling that current business conditions in the construction industry has stopped worsening.
After March’s increase, the expectation indicators reversed the decline observed in February and consolidated their position above the 50-point mark, indicating an increase in the construction sector over the coming months.

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY PERFORMANCE IN FEBRUARY 2018
Activity and employment fall at lower rate The indicators of activity levels and number of employees reached 46.2 and 44.1 points respectively in February, up by 0.6 and 0.2 points as compared to January. Compared with February
2017, the indicators grew respectively by 5.9 and 5.2 points, indicating that activity levels and employee numbers declined at a slower pace.

Construction industry still operating below usual levels The indicator measuring actual-usual activity levels rose by 0.9 points to 36.1 points in February, hitting its highest point since December 2014. The fact that the indicator increased to a level still below the 50-point mark indicates that current levels are approaching usual levels for the month, even though industry continues to operate below usual levels.

The operating capacity utilization rate reached 57% in February, down by three percentage points from January’s figure and by five percentage points from its historical average for the month.

INDUSTRY’S EXPECTATIONS IN MARCH 2018
Expectation indicators rise again in March The expectation indicators grew in March, reversing the decline recorded in February. The indicators remained above the 50-point dividing line, which points to an increase in activity levels, new developments and services, number of employees, and purchases of raw materials and inputs.
The indicators of expected activity levels and of expected new developments and services rose by 1.1 and 1.6 points respectively, hitting the mark of 56.5 and 55.4 points in March. The indicators measuring purchases of inputs and raw materials and number of employees posted growth of 0.8 and 0.7 points respectively, reaching 55.3 and 54.0 points.

Investment intentions fall in March The investment intentions index fell by 1.0 point in March on a month-over-month basis, standing at 31.1 points. Compared with the same month of
2017, the indicator is up by 4.5 points. The index ranges from 0 to 100. The higher the reading, the greater the willingness to invest.

CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS CONFIDENCE INDEX IN MARCH
Entrepreneurs remain confident The Construction Business Confidence Index increased by 0.7 points in March to 57.0 points. The indicator consolidated its position above the 50-point mark, suggesting confidence among construction entrepreneurs. For the first time since 2013, the current conditions indicator amounted to 50.3, signaling that current business conditions in the construction industry has stopped worsening. The expectation indicator rose by 0.7 points to 60.5 points and indicates that entrepreneurs are more optimistic about the next six months.
